Good NBA Teams That Will Never Be Great

0 of 5

Some teams have excellent potential but hit a plateau.

These teams are above mediocrity but below greatness. While these teams are talented, they have limitations that will prevent them from reaching the upper echelon of the NBA.

This means that while they will make the playoffs regularly, raising a NBA Finals Championship banner is not in their future.

Here is a look at the teams making the list.

Orlando Magic

1 of 5

The Magic have put together some nice seasons that have ended with playoff disappointments.

What this shows is a team capable of having a nice season but does not have enough talent to raise the banners in Orlando.

This season shows more of the same. While their defense has been good, their offense is average putting up 93 points a game, which ranks 20th in the NBA. The team has had its share of injuries this season and has shown inconsistencies losing five of six at the end of January.

They have been on a tear lately but if history is any indication, they’ll make the playoffs and lose.

Atlanta Hawks

2 of 5

The Hawks shocked many when they beat the Magic in the playoffs last season.

They have a good nucleus of talent but the problem for them is they are in a conference dominated by the Miami Heat and the Chicago Bulls. This means, unless the Hawks are able to get over the hump, which won’t happen, they will always play second fiddle to the Heat and Bulls.

Philadelphia 76ers

3 of 5

The 76ers have had an excellent season to this point.

They had great wins such as a 95-90 win over the Lakers on February 6. At the same time, when they play better teams they get beat on the boards.

This coupled with their youth will make it hard for them to compete with the elite teams in the playoffs.

Indiana Pacers

4 of 5

The Pacers showed a lot of promise at the beginning of the season but seem to be nose-diving as of late.

They've lost six of their last eight games. Their lapses in defense show a consistency problem, which is one of the factors that will prevent them from making a late run in the playoffs.

Denver Nuggets

5 of 5

The Nuggets have two factors working against them.

One, they play in the Wild West where teams such as the Thunder and Clippers dominate. Two, they can’t play defense well.

They give up on average 100 points a game, which is one of the league’s worst. This will put pressure on the offense to bring it like crazy every night, which is a task they haven't been up to as of late.

Factor all of this together and you have a recipe for disappointment.
