Everyone wants a piece of the New York Knicks right now, and the latest addition to the team is Jersey boy J.R. Smith.
He will be at the Garden tonight, but likely joining the team officially on Sunday against the defending champion Dallas Mavericks.
A team that looked absolutely dismal a week ago is now starting to look like a playoff team, and soon a contender. The arrival of Linsanity has seen more and more players get involved, such as Steve Novak, and it has brought more out of the starters like Landry Fields, Tyson Chandler and Amar'e Stoudemire.
With Carmelo Anthony due to return from his groin injury by Sunday and the addition of another talented shooting guard in Smith, this team just got a whole lot deeper.
Smith's numbers are 37.1 percent from downtown and he averages 12.5 ppg. A bench consisting of Smith, Jared Jeffries, Novak, Iman Shumpert, Josh Harrelson and Baron Davis (when healthy) looks pretty deep. Definitely something the Knicks were missing of late.
If you didn't already believe it, you have to now. Melo is calling the shots on this team.
Rumors had been swirling around that Melo suggested to coach Mike D'Antoni that he give Lin a try. Both Lin and Melo have confirmed that. Now, Melo's former teammate from Denver, who has the same agent as Melo (Leon Rose), is joining the Knicks.
Smith's choices were narrowed down to the Knicks and Clippers, according to his Twitter, and it just proves that Linsanity knows no bounds. Smith could have played with Chris Paul and Blake Griffin in Los Angeles—instead he opted for Lob City East with Chandler, Melo, STAT and Lin.
Come get some.
