The NBA is filled with some of the best athletes on this planet, so it's hard to narrow it down to those select few who deserve to compete in the Dunk Contest. To even be in this, you not only have to be a high flyer, but also must be creative with the way you get the involved and with what you do in the air.
That being said, there is no reason these five players should not be in the Dunk Contest come the end of the month. Of course, there are those that everybody believes should be there, but I think a sleeper could come along this year and take the title.
George could definitely be the sleeper that comes along and steals the show. Standing at 6'8", he possesses LeBron James-like athleticism. He will be a star in the league in the years to come, and this year's Dunk Contest could be his coming out party. Other dunkers, beware.
Arguably the most athletic point guard in the league, Westbrook never ceases to amaze the crowd when he gets in the lane. In games, players are continuously trying their best to stay in front of him.
Just imagine what he could do with nothing but air between him and the basket. I'm not sure why there isn't more speculation about Westbrook in the Dunk Contest, but he needs to be there.
Blake Griffin (with Chris Paul)
Everybody wants to see Griffin come back and put on another Blake show. It only makes sense that he defends his title, but what I want to see is Chris Paul there to throw him at least one pass. Whether it be off the backboard or through the legs, the connection will be perfect and Griffin will finish with the monstrous slam.
No car needed this time, just bring out Chris Paul.
Oh LeBron, stop teasing us with these amazing in-game dunks and get out there on All-Star Weekend and put on a show!
I'm sure he's heard all the pleas, "It'd be a nice way for you to get your fanbase back, Lebron," "All the greats compete in it Lebron."
Well here's mine, "Why wouldn't you want to participate in a Dunk Contest that everyone wants to see you in? If I had your athletic abilities, I would be entering every dunk contest I could!"
Josh Smith is still one of the best dunkers in the league. Although it's been a few years since his last appearance in the Dunk Contest, it's time for him to make his return. He might be a little hurt by the fact that he won't be playing in the All-Star Game, but there's no better way than to take it out on the rim during the Dunk Contest. Show the fans what they are missing out on!
With this lineup of dunkers, the Dunk Contest would be more exciting than it has been in years. Now let's just hope and pray that all these millionaires make the decision to go out there and dunk for the fans a few times.
