UFC on Fuel: What We Learned from Stefan Struve vs Dave Herman

Vince CareyFeb 15, 2012

After a bit of a slow start, these two exciting heavyweights ended up giving the fans what they expected.

Stefan Struve and Dave Herman are both beloved by fans for their non stop action style and ability to finish fights, and that’s what we got in UFC on Fuel 1’s co-main event.

The first round was a bit of a chessmatch and had a slower pace, but as soon as the second round started the cage rust had worn off and these two went at it.

After scoring with a nice takedown into the mount, Struve went after Herman with a combination and landed a nice right uppercut to score the knockdown and finished with some ground and pound from mount.

What We Learned About Stefan Struve:

Not only is Stefan Struve getting better, he’s getting smarter.

Struve showed a ton of patience in the first round and was able to find his range and score with it by the time the second rolled around.

The old Struve would have come out like a wildfire and may have even been caught by a more precise Herman, but he waited for his opportunity and it paid off.

What We Learned About Dave Herman:

Dave Herman is every bit the fighter he was advertised as, and after likely winning the first round he got a bit careless and was finished by Struve.

Still, Herman looked good up until that point and it was a decent showing against a pretty solid opponent.

What’s Next For Struve:

Slowly but surely Struve has worked his way back up the heavyweight ladder, and once again it’s time for him to take a step up in competition.

A bout with the winner of UFC 144’s bout between Cheick Kongo and Mark Hunt would be perfect.

What’s Next For Herman:

Herman is going to fall a bit in the division, but his personality and fanbase will keep him in the spotlight.

A bout with fellow fan favorite Matt Mitrione would be a great fight for both fighters at this point in their careers.
