The NHL is closing in on one of the most exciting days of the season, the trading deadline. Monday, February 27th will mark the final day of the season that teams can move players.

A great deal of hand wringing will take place between now and that date as general managers decide whether or not they should be buyers or sellers.

For some teams, the decision will be easy; they already know that they are out of the playoff race. For others, they may very well have to wait until the final day before knowing what to do and even then the decision may be based on more than just where they sit in the standings.

Some things that GMs must consider are: Will they lose the player to unrestricted free agency at the end of the season? Is the player’s contract a long-term concern? Will what they get in return be a stronger investment for the team? And perhaps most importantly, does the team have a legitimate shot at making a run at the Stanley Cup?

There have been a huge numbers of names bandied about heading toward the trade deadline. Some of those names have been no more than speculation or pipe dreams and those names are not included on this list. You won’t find a Shea Weber, Ryan Suter or Zach Parise on this list because those players, as far as their GMs are concerned, are not on the market.

What you will find are players that have a legitimate chance to be moved on February 27.
