WWE Elimination Chamber: Santino Marella Replacing Randy Orton This Week

Frankie GargiuloContributor IIIFebruary 15, 2012

Is it just me, or do you find the selection of Santino Marella replacing Randy Orton for this week’s main event at the Elimination Chamber, an utter joke? When the news first broke via WWE.com, I actually stood in awe about how ridiculous a decision like this is for the main event. That, and the fact that 609 people currently like the announcement on Facebook.

Now don’t get me wrong, I’m a big Santino fan, but for a chance at the title and for a spot at Wrestlemania—are you serious?  It seems someone spiked the Kool-Aid early this morning at WWE Headquarters with Uncle Sam’s cough medicine to come up with such a ridiculous decision.

I understand how Santino can bring the laughs and become a well-respected persona for his time in the ring, but for main event status?! He’s good for his spots on the early card and for messing with the divas every now and then, but no!

He is no where close to being a main eventer. In fact, I don’t believe any of the matches in his entire WWE career could even carry well against the likes of Randy Orton’s. I was happy with the idea of having another great former champ substitute for the Viper. But now, I have to shake my head at this ridiculous decision. But if he wins, he’ll still be better than David Arquette.
