Selection Sunday is less than a month away and the top teams in college basketball are separating themselves from the rest of the pack. As Ohio State learned last year, though, being the best in the regular season doesn’t always mean much come tournament time.
With that in mind, it’s never too early to project which teams have the best shot at cutting down the nets in New Orleans.
Before the year started, preseason No. 1 North Carolina seemed like the prohibitive favorite for a title. Now, the Tar Heels have lost defensive whiz Dexter Strickland for the season and will likely need to beat the odds and win at Duke if they want to win the ACC, let alone the national championship.
Roy Williams’ team is still very much a Final Four threat, but there will be even more dangerous squads waiting for them if they make it that far. Have a look at this collection of teams positioned to bring home a national title in 2011-12.
