It's no secret that the Philadelphia Flyers have been in need of defensive assistance. But as Paul Holmgren has stated, there are a lot of teams seeking defensemen to bolster their lineups before the impending trade deadline.
However, if they are unable to find the right defenseman because of all the competition between teams vying for players of the same position, why not trade for Rick Nash? As the saying goes, the best defense is a good offense.
Maybe this is the route they should take.
If the Flyers want a Stanley Cup championship this year, they need more offense against the best teams. They really need another superstar in their midst.
Take a look at the following Rick Nash highlight video on you tube. This man has the skill to take the team over the top. This is what they are lacking. He's had a less than stellar year for the Blue Jackets but if he were to join the Flyers, that would most certainly change.
There is a spark missing on this team which is not allowing them to defeat the New York Rangers or the Boston Bruins. True, the Flyers score a lot of goals. But, even with Claude Giroux, Jaromir Jagr, Scott Hartnell and Danny Briere, they do not have a player who can take a game into his own hands and forcibly take control when the team needs it the most.
A player like Nash can make a difference and truly take them over the top. Columbus is rebuilding and some young players will have to go in order to bring Nash to Philadelphia. One young player who should be off limits is Brayden Schenn.
He's going to be great within the next few years. But bringing in Nash will be worth trading nearly any player without a no trade clause on the team.
Do it Mr. Holmgren! What do you think? Would this be a controversial move?
