The Pirates have decided not to offer a contract to free-agent first baseman Dmitri Young after putting him through a tryout Monday at the team's complex in Bradenton, Fla.

Young, 38, has not played in the majors since 2008. He is trying to make a comeback after overcoming personal issues and slimming down by 70 pounds.
