I like the Atlanta Hawks. I'm a big Mike Bibby fan, in my eyes he's a good soldier, but I'm not feelin' Bibby filling the Hawks need for a point guard.
It will forever haunt the Hawks that they didn't draft Chris Paul or Deron Williams — it was plain stupidity.
Taking a sixth man freshman in a position your already talented at, rather than two proven floor generals. Just a shame! Even in my 12-year keeper league fantasy draft, Chris Paul and Deron Williams were selected before Marvin. Us armchair GM's had more savvy than the Hawks GM.
But let bygones be bygones, we'll take the virtuous route and forgive but never forget.
Now they have Acie Law & Mike Bibby, Law is more of a two and Bibby is worse for wear. As previously stated, I'm a longtime Bibby fan, but at the age of 30 he has played a lot of games.
It doesn't matter how old you are, it matters how much mileage is on those legs.
I wasn't impressed watching him the first few games with Hawks. He definitely has lost a step, and it shows in his production the past few years.
The Kings decided not to scuttle the ship and keep Artest, probably because nobody wanted his cancer, but still wanted to part with Bibby. A castoff of the Spurs, Beno Udrich, was showing more productivity.
So Bibby, in my opinion, is not the answer to the Hawks point guard need. It should still be the No. 1 priority for them this off-season.
On a related note, J-Smoove (Josh Smith) appears to have fallen in love with the mid-range shot and isn't dunking in the half-court offense any more. He will dunk on the break, but he doesn't seem to have that fire with which he would humiliate defenders in the half-court.
He just doesn't appear to have fire! Perhaps the conflict rumours with Mike Woodson are true. I just hate to see players with extraordinary talent become "blahseh" (re: Vince Carter).

Good article.
As a huge NBA fan, the Hawks really perplex me. When you look at their roster: Joe Johnson, Josh Smith, Marvin Williams, Al Horford, Josh Childress, and now Mike Bibby the Hawks have some legit talent on their team. I'm really confused to why they seem mired in mediocrity? You could argue that they've needed a quality PG for years, but at the same time not every great team has a quality PG. I haven't watched the Hawks nearly as much as you probably have, but is it bad chemistry, pathetic coaching, or is it really just a PG issue?
No matter what it is, the Hawks still hold a bright future purely because they have a lot of bargaining chips (trade bait) on their squad. If worse comes to worse they can package up for a superstar in the off-season.

They are mired in mediocrity because they need a new coach!
