2K Sports, creators of MLB 2K12, made a brilliant gamble to bring in supermodel Kate Upton as a spokeswoman for their latest iteration of the popular baseball franchise.

They released a digital spot on YouTube yesterday showing the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Edition cover model explaining to a number of MLB pitchers how to use proper finger mechanics and pitch control in the game.

The premise behind the 44-second advertisement is that David Price of the Tampa Bay Rays, C.J. Wilson of the Los Angeles Angels, Jay Bruce of the Cincinnati Reds and cover athlete Justin Verlander are trying to get into the “Perfect Club.”

The Perfect Club is an exclusive group of perfect game pitchers and previous million-dollar winners.

Upton starts out by explaining how to throw a circle change and begins to help David Price while the other professional pitchers just look stunned with their PlayStation controllers in hand.

She asks if anyone else needs help, and obviously every one of the pitchers raises his hand in shocked silence. It's not hard to blame them.

Then it cuts to footage of the game and Upton explains how throwing perfect games can win you $1 million and “all that comes with it” by going to their Facebook page.

2K Sports really out did themselves this year and made a great decision to hire Upton before it was announced she would be the cover girl of SI’s Swimsuit Edition.

They were able to film this spot and release it on the same day she was announced to be the featured model for the prestigious issue, capitalizing on the huge amount of buzz she will be receiving.

It’s an effective, funny and timely spot and, as you can see above, this certainly isn’t going to have any problems getting some eyeballs on it.
