His life changed long before everything else did at Penn State.

He didn't get that one last October of normalcy. The last time legendary coach Joe Paterno, the man who also coached his father, led the Nittany Lions into a football game, he was rehabbing yet another devastating knee injury.

Maybe that's why linebacker Michael Mauti is so reticent to look anywhere but straight ahead. Into the future. Away from the place that never changed and toward one that does seemingly every day.
