Detroit Tigers slugger Miguel Cabrera is serious about making the transition from first base to third base to accommodate new first baseman Prince Fielder this season.

The move has been greeted with skepticism by many who believe Cabrera will be a defensive liability at the hot corner, but teammate and offseason workout partner Alex Avila says Cabrera is determined to make it work and has whipped himself into shape.
