BIRMINGHAM, Alabama -- Kickoffs in college football could look dramatically different in 2012. Citing safety concerns, the NCAA Football Rules Committee recommended today to move kickoffs and touchbacks up 5 yards each in hopes of fewer returns.

The proposal calls for kickoffs to be at the 35-yard line instead of the 30. Touchbacks on free kicks would be brought out to the 25-yard line rather than the 20. The NCAA said data indicates injuries occur more often during kickoffs than any other phases of the game.
