Maybe Rex Ryan should wear masking tape over his mouth at his next press conference as a way of finally admitting he gets it.

In light of another world championship by the New York Giants, talk of a Super Bowl appearance or victory by anyone representing the New York Jets just isn't credible.

In fact, it's downright embarrassing.

And given that fact, how does head coach Rex Ryan motivate himself to continue to lead this franchise much less anyone else given the hard reality a fourth Lombardi trophy is now nestled by their neighbors, the New York Giants?

After a 32-22 record in three seasons, how does Ryan approach this critical fourth season in New York?

Faced with the impossible expectation of competing for a championship, how does Ryan avoid complete disaster next season?

For all the talk of Super Bowls, displacing the Giants as the preferred franchise of the metropolitan area and other assorted predictions is rhetoric no one wants to hear ever again!

Myself included.

For the time has come to find out just how good of a coach Rex Ryan is and does he have what it takes to fix a situation he caused all by himself?

With an anemic running game, no pass rush and a quarterback being blamed for all that is wrong with Gang Green, what does ownership as well as management do to fix a situation that looks bleak to most Jet fans?

For the pressure to win now remains larger than ever in wake of a 9-7 Giant squad winning three straight games on the road to their fourth Super Bowl championship in five tries. Since the merger, the New York Giants are 9-1 in conference and Super Bowl play while the Jets are a lousy 0-4 in conference play and zero Super Bowl berths!

The problem for the Jets is obvious, is Rex Ryan the right personality or fit for the Jets moving forward?

I just don't know.

A player's coach with a big mouth, is this the face of the franchise the Jets or the fans can support at this moment in time?

While owner Woody Johnson and general manager Mike Tannenbaum remain mum, the franchise did purchase full-page ads in the local press congratulating the Giants on yet another NFL championship.

But isn't that just the right thing to do?

How does a veteran squad like the Jets respond to Ryan, who only seems to be able to talk about a Super Bowl ring, and not deliver the goods. For the knock on Ryan is legitimate and brought on by himself with no one else to blame.

Does the Giant Super Bowl win further diminish Ryan with the fans as well as the press?

Given those facts, who wants to come to New York and play for a coach clearly on the hot seat in 2012?

While tempting to lure Peyton Manning to New York, is that nothing more than another quick fix similar to the Bret Favre debacle also engineered by Mike Tannenbaum?

For when does Tannenbaum as well as Johnson begin to share some of the criticism for this rudderless vessel called the New York Jets?

For all the praise thrown Tannenbaum's way for losing in conference championships, there doesn't seem to be much of a vote of confidence for Ryan in lieu of this season-ending collapse leaving the team out of the playoffs and just 8-8!

As the Jets prepare for the NFL draft and the 2012 season, I don't know how Ryan repairs his credibility to be taken seriously as the team moves forward.

Short of apologizing to the fans as well as the media, does Rex Ryan have any ability to lead and win in the shadow of these New York Giants and the toxic environment that now has leaked out of the locker room and into the media?

Time will certainly tell.
