Ricky Rubio, Derrick Williams to Participate in 2012 BBVA Rising Stars Challenge

The NBA announced today that Minnesota Timberwolves rookies Ricky Rubio and Derrick Williams will represent their team at the 2012 BBVA Rising Stars Challenge. The game will take place on Feb. 24 at the Amway Center in Orlando, FL.

Formerly known as the Rookie-Sophomore Challenge, the Rising Stars Challenge offers a new format to the game. Rather than classes playing against each other, rookies and sophomores will be mixed between the two teams.

According to the official Timberwolves website, BBVA (the Official Bank of the NBA) will be the title partner of the event, and TNT analysts Charles Barkley and Shaquille O'Neal will serve as general managers of the respective teams.

The 18 players chosen for the challenge were taken from a pool of rookies and sophomores selected by assistant coaches from the around the league.

Timberwolves.com also reports that TNT's Kenny Smith will serve as the honorary Commissioner and Ernie Johnson will host the live BBVA Rising Stars Challenge Draft on Thursday, Feb. 16, on NBA TV at 7 p.m. ET.
