Is Tim Tebow the New Brett Favre?
While many fans condemned Favre for the way his career ended, you can’t ignore the years of unquestioned service he had and his sheer giddiness towards the game. It always felt like Favre knew it was just for fun, which is how Tebow plays as well.
They are perceived differently in the public's eye, but they both invoke the same emotions in all kinds of people. While Favre’s accessibility was geared towards small-town folks that were looking at the future Hall of Fame QB as inspiration to make it big, Tebow has found his niche audience with the religious.
It’s more than that, though. It’s the work ethic.
Favre was always known as a jokester (just like Tebow), but when the time was right, there wasn’t a more serious player on the field. While the latter years were marred by controversy after controversy, let’s not forget just how hard Favre had to work to get to that Hall of Fame-worthy level.
Tebow has done nothing but work hard since he was a kid.
With Tebow embodying the role of a blue-collar player, this is the kind of person that fans want their kids to idolize. Believe it or not, that was also the perception of Favre for a long time.
The duo may not be the same man on a morality level, but as athletes, they are both the embodiment of what teams want from a quarterback and what people want from the face of a franchise.
Fans want a guy they could imagine themselves sitting next to in a restaurant and talking sports; that was Favre and is Tebow.
