WWE Monday Night Raw (2/6/12) Results: Live Blog, Coverage and Analysis
Hey, Bleachers, this is the live blog for the Feb. 6, 2012 edition of the WWE Monday Night Raw SuperShow.
Last week on Raw, the WWE Universe was treated to a show that was so good, it arguably eclipsed the Royal Rumble itself.
Daniel Bryan and CM Punk faced each other in a champion vs. champion match after tensions arose between the two due to some John Laurinaitis pot-stirring.
The match ended with Daniel Bryan winning by disqualification when Chris Jericho came out and threw him out of the way, clearing the path to CM Punk. Jericho hit Punk with the Code Breaker and left him laying in the ring.
At the end of the show, Triple H was fully prepared to fire John Laurinaitis after drawing out his critique of the Interim GM. As Triple H was about to make it official, the Undertaker returned in dramatic fashion to challenge Triple H to a match at WrestleMania.
Triple H apparently turned down the dead man and left him in the ring to close out the show.
There's only 55 days until WrestleMania and the WWE won't be slowing down tonight.
Join in on the live discussion with us here in the comment section once the show begins.
John Laurinaitis is interviewed, says Triple H was acting cowardly when declining the Undertaker's WrestleMania challenge.
"Six-pack Challenge":
The Miz, R-Truth, Kofi Kingston, and Dolph Ziggler all jump Chris Jericho. Punk rolls up the Miz while they're distracted, but Miz kicks out. Jericho rolls out of the ring and lurks there for a while.
Before the first commercial break, R-Truth takes a nasty bump outside of the ring. Looked very painful.
Well, it appears that R-Truth isn't being allowed to continue by WWE medics. Punk hits a neckbreaker AND DDT on Dolph Ziggler and The Miz.
Punk and Jericho are the only two in the ring. The crowd is behind Punk, but Miz and Ziggler jump them...what a tease!
Miz goes for the Skullcrushing Finale, Jericho ducks and Kofi hits Miz with the Trouble in Paradise. Jericho going to work on Kofi now. Kofi getting after it now, near fall, but Jericho brings him down with an elbow and goes for the Lionsault. Kofi avoids, Jericho catches the Trouble in Paradise, and puts him in the Walls of Jericho. Punk makes the save.
Punk throws Jericho from the ring, and hits Ziggler with the GTS, he goes for the pin, Jericho yanks Punk out and throws him over the announce table. Jericho returns to the ring, pins Ziggler and puts his foot on the rope for the win.
Punk is still down, Jericho sits in the ring crosslegged like Punk, holding the WWE Championship. The moment is ruined by random screaming...oh hey! It's Kane yelling at Eve Torres backstage. What?
Chris Jericho wins the "Six-pack Challenge"
Kane says he's afraid for her if Cena doesn't embrace the hate soon...he's afraid for everyone, and most of all, he's afraid...for himself.
What a horrible line! Ugh. Kane.
So folks, how do you feel about a "Six-pack Challenge" that didn't involve Stone Cold Steve Austin and some Steveweisers? I'm bummed, personally.
Eve, K2, Tamina, Alicia vs. Beth, Natalya, Bella Twins:
Beth is still making angry tags. Michael Cole forgets who was in the Superbowl. Tamina gets the win. They pan to the crowd, who look incredibly bored.
Eve, K2, Tamina, Alicia def. Beth, Natalya, Bella Twins via Pinfall
They play a clip of The Rock on Jay Leno's show...Jay asks him about wardrobe malfunctions, but we only get Rock's lead in about how he can't wait for WrestleMania. WHAT HAPPENED!?!?!!?
Backstage, Triple H is on the phone, and John Laurinaitis walks in trying to make nice with him. He starts to brown nose the board of directors, and says he's bringing Shawn Michaels to Raw next week.
Johnny Ace says that he also wants to make Kane vs. Cena in an Ambulance match at Elimination Chamber. Triple H chases him off.
Randy Orton & The Great Khali vs. Cody Rhodes & Wade Barrett:
Thankfully this match ended way fast. Khali chops Cody Rhodes, and gets the pin. Orton isn't pleased with not getting the pin himself, and his Khali with the RKO.
Randy Orton & The Great Khali def. Cody Rhodes & Wade Barrett
Why does Jerry Lawler wear Affliction shirts now? Can someone answer this for me?
Jericho comes out and cuts a promo, he says all the WWE Superstars that are "Chris Jericho wannabes", who have stolen all of his stuff. Not just the Superstars, but the fans too.
He says he manipulated all of the fans without saying the word. He says The Miz has ripped him off, Kofi Kingston, and even R-Truth and Dolph Ziggler (he's almost comically reaching).
He comes to CM Punk. He says that Punk will lie right to your face and call himself the best in the world, and Punk knows deep down, that Jericho is the best in the world at everything he does. Jericho says he doesn't need to put it on the back of his shirt to prove it.
He proved it when he was the first undisputed WWE champion, he proved it when he earned all of his titles, he earned it when he eliminated Randy Orton in his home town at the Royal Rumble.
"This is the end of the world as you know it, because I'm coming to reclaim what is mine."
CM Punk's music hits, and it appears that he has a new shirt, very nice. Punk looks like he means business.
Punk drops the mic and holds the WWE Championship above his head. He turns his back to Jericho to show him the "best in the world" on his back, and walks away without saying anything to him. Jericho calls him a wannabe, and Jericho gets mad, wanting Punk to acknowledge him.
David Otunga is in the ring, and he has something to say. He says he's never had a boss who's more insightful, intelligent, etc., as John Laurinaitis.
He hopes that the board of directors let's Johnny boy keep his position. He asks everyone to pray with him about it, and he Tebows in the ring. It's announced that Triple H has made a match including Otunga, starting now.
David Otunga vs. Sheamus:
Sheamus crushes him, all while Otunga isn't even in wrestling gear. Sheamus puts him away with a Brogue Kick.
Sheamus def. David Otunga via Pinfall
Chris Jericho is coming out to talk, next!
John Cena is going to be the honorary starter for the Daytona 500 (NASCAR). Pretty cool, despite not being a fan myself.
Now we get a nice Elimination Chamber promo, they sell how hard it is for the Champion to retain in the match.
One more plug for the six pack challenge, and we get another commercial.
Big Show vs. Daniel Bryan:
Daniel Bryan has AJ with him, Big Show doesn't look particularly pleased about this.
After some quick back and forth, and a commercial break, Bryan counters a choke slam with a guillotine choke, but Show escapes. Bryan gets out on the apron, and Big Show kicks him off clumsily. Bryan starts to say he hurt his knee, and Show comes out after him.
AJ tries to stop him, and Big Show goes to get back in the ring, and Bryan attacks him. Big Show almost crushes AJ once again, as Bryan hides behind her. Bryan takes her (still behind her) and they leave, Bryan gets counted out.
Big Show def. Daniel Bryan via Countout
Daniel Bryan cuts a promo at the top of the entrance ramp. He says protecting AJ is more important than beating Big Show, says he'll be Heavyweight Champion after Elimination Chamber.
We're immediately treated to a recap of the Undertaker's return. They ask what is going through the mind of the cerebral assassin, and we're taken to the arena for the opening pyro.
Tonight there will be a "Six Pack Challenge" between the Raw Elimination Chamber participants. The first match of the night will be Daniel Bryan vs. Big Show, but first, Triple H comes out.
Nice lime green tie, Hunter.
First up, Triple H makes it clear (as if we didn't figure this out ourselves) that he was on Raw last week to fire John Laurinaitis. He never got to it, but that was certainly his intentions. He starts to bash Laurinaitis, and says he doesn't have any redeeming qualities.
The board of directors has decided, after a last minute plea by Laurinaitis, to make a decision themselves, and won't have a decision tonight. He moves on to the Undertaker, who he mentions hadn't been back since he was last seen being helped out of the arena at WrestleMania last year.
Triple H says that after all this time, he stands in the ring with the Undertaker and he's in awe, that he's humbled to be in there with him. He mentions how this year the roles were reversed, he called out Triple H without saying a word last week.
He looked into the eyes of the dead man, and says there was no rush, no tingling in his stomach, he wasn't in awe, and he wasn't humbled by him. All he felt was sorry, he felt bad for Taker. He knows what he did to him last year, and he chooses to remember the Undertaker in a different light...
Triple H calls for a highlight reel to be played, saying that's how he wants to remember the Undertaker. He doesn't want to remember "this"...it's a clip of Undertaker laid out in the ring after last year's match with Triple H, and being carted away.
Trips calls Taker the most dominant force in the WWE, and for that reason, he declines the challenge. The crowd boos, and he says that he understands that the decision isn't popular. He knows that if he faces him again, he has to finish it, and Taker knows it too. Maybe Taker wants him to put an end to it.
Triple H says they both saw his limits last year, and he won't be the one to push him past it. He points to the WrestleMania sign, and says this is over. His music plays, but cuts out as he goes to leave the ring. The lights go down and the crowd bursts, but nothing happens.
An Undertaker promo plays, with him saying "This is not over." Taker says he won't let "that" (him being laid out at WrestleMania) be the last image of him. He asks for Triple H to give him what is his, and wants vengeance.
We head to commercial.
The WWE Raw SuperShow is live! Coverage of the opening segment coming up next.
