NBA Power Rankings: Breaking Down the Current Top 10 Teams

As we near the All-Star break, it’s still fairly difficult to separate the contenders from the pretenders in both conferences. The Oklahoma City Thunder and Chicago Bulls are two obvious choices, but below them is a daily shuffle for supremacy. It’s been hectic, but very exciting to watch.

I mostly blame the insane NBA schedule, but the lack of a training camp certainly didn’t help any team. Thank the NBA and its owners for pushing for a few more games (and a few more dollars) at the expense of their product and the long-term health of their stars.

Certain perennial contenders such as the Boston Celtics are starting to roll after very slow starts. Additionally, there are a number of upstart teams without any marquee names on their rosters that are making a lot of noise in the middle of the playoff pack (think Utah Jazz, Indiana Pacers).

Here is my breakdown of the current top 10 teams in the league.
