The UFC returns to its home base of Las Vegas, Nevada this weekend to present UFC 143. The fight card will be headlined by a welterweight bout between former Strikeforce champion Nick Diaz and Carlos Condit, with the winner taking home the interim UFC welterweight title.
Diaz was originally set to compete against UFC welterweight champion Georges St-Pierre on this card, however a training injury left St-Pierre with a torn ACL and a date with a surgeon. The long recovery time and the fact that St-Pierre had not defended his title since defeating Jake Shields on April 30, 2011, resulted in the UFC deciding that an interim champ was needed. And with that, Carlos Condit was slotted in to face Diaz for that very title.
Diaz and Condit have been dominant forces in the welterweight division over the last few years. Diaz has run up an 11-fight winning streak since his last loss, which took place in November 2007. Condit has gone 12-1 in his last 13 fights, his only loss coming in his UFC debut against Martin Kampmann on April 1, 2009.
The evening's co-main event will see Roy Nelson face off against Fabricio Werdum, the man who famously ended Fedor Emelianenko's 28-fight unbeaten streak.
Main Card:
Nick Diaz (169) vs. Carlos Condit (169)
Fabricio Werdum (246) vs. Roy Nelson (246)
Josh Koscheck (170) vs. Mike Pierce (170)
Renan Barao (136) vs. Scott Jorgensen (135)
Ed Herman (185) vs. Clifford Starks (185)
Preliminary Card:

Stay tuned to Bleacher Report as we bring you the weigh-in results as the fighters step on the scale.
In the main event, for the interim UFC welterweight title, Carlos Condit hits the scale first, weighing in at 169. His opponent, Nick Diaz, comes out as expected wearing a scowl to go with his hoodie and jeans and he weighs in at 169 as well.
The two fighters keep their distance at the staredown.
Condit hearing some boos as he talks to Joe Rogan and acknowledges that Diaz is the toughest opponent he has ever faced.
Diaz is hearing a mixed reaction and says he is there to represent Cesar Gracie Jiu-Jitsu or take his ass whooping.
The co-main event features Fabricio Werdum who weighs in at 246. His opponent Roy Nelson also steps on to the scale at 246.
A welterweight bout is next on the card. Mike Pierce comes out sporting a blonde wig, a not so subtle shot at his opponent, Josh Koscheck's hair style. Pierce and Koscheck both weigh in at 170 and then get face to face, no smiles from Koscheck in regard to the wig.
Next up is a bantamweight bout that could very well have title shot implications. First on the scale is Scott Jorgensen who weighs in 135. Jorgensen is followed by Renan Barao, who weighs in at 136.
The first fight on the main card features Clifford Starks who weighs in at 185, Starks is followed to the scale by Ed Herman, who also clocks in at 185.
The last bout on FX will be a featherweight scrap. Max Holloway is first up and he weighs in at 144, his opponent Dustin Poirier weighs in at 146 and we are on to the pay per view card.
A bantamweight bout is up next. Edwin Figueroa makes weight at 135 and Alex Cacares bops out with a smile on his face. That smiles disappears as he steps on the scale and he hears 137 being announced. Joe Rogan says, "Back up ladies, we're going to lose some underwear," and out comes the towel.
Cacares makes 136 and Rogan remarks, "That's some heavy underwear."
Another welterweight bout follows. Chris Cope and Matt Brown both weigh in at 171 for this one and yes, Cope throws out a "WOOO!" for the crowd.
The first fight on the FX preliminary card will be a welterweight contest. Henry Martinez weighs in at 169, while his opponent Matt Riddle checks in at 170. Riddle has a huge height advantage in this one.
Next up on a facebook fight we have two middleweightd, Michael Kuiper weighs in at 183 while his opponent Rafael Natal weighs in at 186. Again, an uneventful weigh in as the fighters embrace and shake hands before leaving the stage.
Joe Rogan blasts through his introductions and gets right down to business for the first contest of the night, a welterweight bout.
Stephen "Wonderboy" Thompson steps on and weighs in at 171, his opponent Dan "The Anvil" Stittgen weighs in at 170. The fighters shake hands and have a uneventful staredown.
