Alabama Football Recruiting: RB Justin Taylor Spurns Tide for Kentucky
In a surprising turn of events, Atlanta running back Justin Taylor has decided to decommit from the Alabama Crimson Tide and sign with SEC rival Kentucky.
After tearing his ACL this past football season, Taylor learned that he would be grayshirted his first semester in Tuscaloosa.
"At first I went along with it," Justin Taylor said two weeks ago, according to Alabama.Scout.com. "It’s now getting to me. I just love football. I have played for so long. I can’t sit out for another six months. I just don't think I can do that. I am going to look at my options."
The 5'10", 208-pound class of 2013 running back did just that, taking visits to both Kentucky and Ole Miss last week.
Taylor is a downhill power back that can also be utilized in the passing game. Although he lacks the breakaway speed that most scouts drool over, he is able to create big plays by running opponents over.
Just six days after reassuring Nick Saban he'd stick with the Tide, the high school junior picked Kentucky early Signing Day morning.
The Wildcats finished fifth in the SEC's West division after a 5-7, 2-6 season. CoShik Williams—a junior—was UK's leading rusher (486 yards) in 2011 and recorded just three touchdowns.
