The people have spoken, and democracy has never looked so sexy. AskMen.com asked its readers to rate the hottest women of the world—tough job, jeez—on categories from looks (duh) to other factors, such as who would make the best marriage material (all of the above wasn't an option).

The result is the website's Top 99 Women of 2012, and...yeah, it's about as awesome as you'd expect. Here's how they described their annual feature that recently dropped:

With the help of our loyal readers, we scoured the globe to find the Top 99 Most Desirable Women of 2012—from steamy Colombian nightclubs to the high fashion runways of Milan, from brains to busts to business sense.

Well put. But aside from nightlife in Bogota and high-style catwalks in Italy, there's also plenty of women who come from MMA rings, sports magazines, stadium luxury boxes and tennis courts. They're the athletically linked contingent of this list—here are the 10 best who made the cut.

10. Arianny Celeste

AskMen.com rank: No. 68 of 99

With all the big hits, blood, submission moves and Joe Rogan's hot air, the UFC needs something soothing to cool its fans down (or maybe to remember what round it is after drinking wayyyy too many beers during the under card).

Enter Arianny. AskMen said this "knockout ring girl could turn even Gandhi into a UFC fan." Bleacher Report Swagger's inclined to agree.

9. Caroline Wozniacki

Look, there's plenty of good-looking women in tennis. You could pack Flushing Meadows' bleacher seats full of gorgeous women who can swing a racket and look good while doing so. Here's 30 to get started with.

But backing it up with solid play is what elevates Wozniacki. It's why you've heard of her, why she's way more of a household name than, say, 99 percent of the women here. AskMen.com wrote:

They say the golden era of men's tennis has made the women's circuit obsolete, but thanks to this talented Danish upstart, we'd have to disagree.

8. Cheryl Cole

AskMen.com rank: No. 69 of 99

OK, let's get this out of the way: Cheryl Cole is married to English Premier League superstar Ashley Cole, which makes her a WAG, which in turn makes her sports eligible. OK, enough of that, we've got whole sections of content if you want to read up on World Football (Transfer Mania, OMG!).

Most people would rather study Cheryl. She's a pop star across the pond who is rather easy on the eyes. Her > Victoria Beckham. No. Doubt.

7. Leryn Franco

AskMen.com rank: No. 64 of 99

Never has the Paraguayan national track team enjoyed such relevance, and Franco is the athlete-with-supermodel-looks sports figure to thank. She's a javelin thrower—yes, a smoking hot woman who flings spears through the air—who is known as much for her beauty as her skill.

But while she won't be setting any records at London in 2012, you can bet the ratings will be much higher.

6. Stacy Keibler

Askmen.com rank: No. 45 of 99

Keibler and her Mississippi River-long legs left WWE a long time ago, trading a life of performing with a bunch of musclebound oafs for a spot on the red carpet with everyone's favorite salt and pepper-haired A-list celeb. So, she's still a sports hottie?

Uhhh...whatever. We're still claiming her, and any argument against our logic should be diffused by the accompanying photo.

5. Tamara Ecclestone

AskMen.com rank: No. 61 of 99

You probably don't watch Formula 1, though, can you probably glean from a sport where Ferraris and McLarens and Lotuses race in exotic sports around the world that the people involved are rich and hot. And you'd be right. For example: Tamara here.

She's the daughter of the sport's supreme commander guy, which isn't as interesting as her socialite lifestyle and photo shoots, which landed the European export on a U.S. website's list.

4. Brooklyn Decker

AskMen.com ranking: No. 33 of 99

She's married to Andy Roddick, which makes her not only a WAG, but a fan of lackluster tennis. It's OK, we're allowed to take shots at the 2003 (and nothing else important) U.S. Open Champion because he gets to call a swimsuit cover model—who walks like this—his wife.

We'll let our buddies at Ask Men sum it up from here: "If cameras could talk, they wouldn't stop raving about her."

3. Irina Shayk

AskMen.com rank: No. 67 of 99

Her sports link—aside from being an SI Swimsuit Edition cover model (that's close enough by itself)—is that she's linked to soccer superstar/jerk Christiano Ronaldo. While that's a shame, it does give us more reasons to post pictures of her—even if her boyfriend makes us root even harder for Messi.

2. Kate Upton

AskMen.com rank: No. 2 of 99

If Upton isn't on the cover of the next Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Edition, that publication's group of editors need their eyes/brains/drug history tested. With a popularity that exploded at the end of 2011 (plus rumors of her involvement with poise-filled-turned-disastrous QB Mark Sanchez), she'll always have a home on B/R Swagger slideshows.

The Top 99 compilers said it best, though:

Even a video of her doing the Dougie at a Clippers game went viral. If she can make the dumbest dance craze in years look sexy, just imagine what else she can do.

1. Brittney Palmer

AskMen.com rank: No. 40 out of 99

Yes, it's not Christmas, but the photo's appropriate because this UFC ring girl extended the holidays for teenage boys and adults who act like them (writer raises hand) when news broke that this would be happening.

Palmer's been a fan favorite for a long while now, and expect her popularity to skyrocket even more after her big pictorial hits newsstands and MacBook screens everywhere.
