After weeks of buildup that saw the triumphant returns of the two front-runners to win this year's event—Randy Orton and Chris Jericho—the Royal Rumble has finally arrived compliments of St. Louis, Mo.
A handful of young names are expected to impress in the Royal Rumble this year, including Cody Rhodes, Wade Barrett, Sheamus, Mason Ryan and possibly Dolph Ziggler.
This big-four pay-per-view is where the undercard goes to die, as most of the intrigue and excitement is centered around the fastest 60 minutes in sports and entertainment as the WWE gears up for WrestleMania season.
Be that as it may, this year's Royal Rumble presents a very serviceable undercard featuring a main event between CM Punk and Dolph Ziggler that is expected to be a very strong wrestling contest.
Among the many burning questions surrounding tonight's Royal Rumble match, the element of surprise looms large, as WWE's decree that "every superstar is eligible" will figure to open up a king-size can of worms. My defiantly un-synched Mock Royal Rumble from earlier today submitted the likes of Michael Cole, Christian, Dusty Rhodes and Daniel Bryan as those who could make an unexpected appearance in the 2012 Royal Rumble match, but let's hope the WWE really hits our mark-out buttons with what they have in store.
Here are my predictions for tonight's Royal Rumble pay-per-view:
World Championship Steel Cage Match: Daniel Bryan over Big Show and Mark Henry by escaping the cage
WWE Championship Match w/Special Guest Referee John Laurinaitis: CM Punk def. Dolph Ziggler via pinfall
30-Man Royal Rumble Match: Chris Jericho wins the 2012 Royal Rumble
