WWE Royal Rumble 2012 1-29-2012
It is that special time of the year again where every one goes nuts trying to pick apart the field and decide a Royal Rumble winner. Well after dusting off seven months of writing rust, I have formally declared my intent to enter into Bleacher Report's Royal Rumble Match.
Well after pondering on what to write about, I decided to come up with a "simulation" of how the main event Rumble match will turn out based on a wrestlers' momentum coming into the match and past rumble history.
This was a fun little project and I hope you all enjoy it as well.
With this many slides, questions will arise why one particular person made into the Rumble and another did not. If you have any questions or felt like I left someone out, please let me know in the comment section.
With that being said, let's open up the "simulation" and begin.
The Second Entrant Will Be: R Truth
R Truth Enters at #2
As Everyone knows by now, The Miz has been given the No. 1 entrant due to losing a match against R Truth this past Monday on RAW. I expect Miz to encounter a lot of R Truth this Sunday as Truth will some how "magically" get placed in the No. 2 spot.
In The Ring:
The Miz
R Truth
First One Eliminated: Heath Slater
Heath Slater will enter at #3 and be the first Eliminated
Even though it would seem like R Truth and The Miz will eliminate one another, I suspect that the WWE will allow them both to toy around with eliminations.
The third entrant, Heath Slater, will be the first one out. R Truth will handle this elimination with ease.
In The Ring:
R Truth
The Miz
The Early Field Setter Will Be: Mason Ryan
Mason Ryan will play a big role in how the Rumble Develops
In every Royal Rumble there is always that one guy that holds up the action allowing the ring to fill up.
In this Rumble, I expected that man to be Ted Dibiase, but considering that he may enter the Rumble injured, I scratched his name out and placed Mason Ryan in his place.
The job of the setter is just to cause mayhem, throw some punches around basically keep things grounded.
In The Ring:
Mason Ryan
R Truth
The Miz
Waiting to Be Eliminated Entrant: Jinder Mahal
Jinder Mahal will be nothing more then a noticeable filler in the Rumble
Jinder Mahal has no chance at lasting a long time in this Rumble.
He only serves one purpose in this match: sit back and wait until it is his time to be eliminated. Expect him to do just that and hit a couple of big moves here and there.
But, don't worry, he is in no way a long-term guy in the 2012 Royal Rumble.
In The Ring:
Mason Ryan
R Truth
The Miz
Jinder Mahal
The Miz Will Eliminate R Truth
Expect Another Skull Crushing Finale From The Miz
Since we now have a couple of guys filling up the ring, here is the spot to see R Truth get tossed out by the Miz. After a series of counters, expect the Miz to use some underhand tactics to get Truth out.
In The Ring:
Mason Ryan
The Miz
Jinder Mahal
A Couple of Random Entrants: William Regal Enters at 7th Spot
William Regal Enters and Has A Nice Showing
After R Truth's elimination, The Miz will emerge as an early favorite. Expect a couple more vets and maybe a special entrant.
I expect William Regal to enter at this point. He has plenty of experience and can work with Miz and Ryan in setting the early pace for this Rumble.
In The Ring:
Mason Ryan
The Miz
Jinder Mahal
William Regal
One or two fillers/ One filler and a surprise
Sheamus Enters the Rumble Number at 9
Sheamus Comes In As a Powerhouse
This is the moment where the whole game changes. When Sheamus enters the Rumble at the ninth spot expect a nicely pack ring to suddenly clear.
In The Ring:
Mason Ryan
The Miz
Jinder Mahal
William Regal
Two fillers
Sheamus
Sheamus Will Eliminate Jinder Mahal and Some of the Field Setters
Expect A Similar Story Come Sunday
Sheamus enters and will eliminate fillers: his Smackdown rival Jinder Mahal and Mason Ryan. He will go on a big run and pose a threat to Miz supremacy in the match.
In The Ring:
The Miz
William Regal
Sheamus
One filler
The Miz Will Leave the Ring, but Will Not Be Eliminated
The Miz High 5 Michael Cole on Sunday
Seeing Sheamus gaining new momentum, The Miz leaves the ring under the bottom rope before he gets in the grasp of Sheamus. But, don't worry folks, he is in no way eliminated.
Come Sunday, Miz will hang out and about outside the ring a lot. In other words, expect The Miz to do some mid-match commentary during the Royal Rumble and maybe give a couple of high fives to his No. 1 fan Michael Cole.
In The Ring:
The Miz
William Regal
Sheamus
One filler
More Field Setters and Jobbers Will Enter: Hunico Will Lead the Way at 10th Spot
Hunico won't do much in this year's Rumble
Look for the Miz outside the ring and Sheamus running out of bodies to pummel inside of it.
Expect more fillers and setters to come in the ring. Sheamus will be a bit grounded as the fresh bodies roll in but no eliminations have been made yet.
Yoshi Tatsu sneaks into the Rumble at 11 with a random filler entrant thrown into the mix. Look for one of the Colons to take this spot. Most likely Primo.
In The Ring:
The Miz
William Regal
Sheamus
Yoshi Tatsu
Hunico
One filler
Primo
The Early Favorite Will Be: Sheamus
If Sheamus comes out earlier in the Rumble, he will easily be a top favorite
Keeping up with the theme of Sheamus, he has emerged as a good choice at this spot. So far no one beside the Miz is seen as a sizable threat. His title as early favorite is one that is easily won.
In The Ring:
The Miz
William Regal
Sheamus
One filler
Hunico
Yoshi Tatsu
Primo
The Person with the Worse Showing After Slater: Ezekiel Jackson
Despite his size, Jackson will Job to the Next Entrant in the Rumble
It is hard to believe that the last person to hold the IC Title before Cody Rhodes was Ezekiel Jackson.
With that said, I don't see much changing here. Big Zeke will go on a light fury showcasing his strength, but his time in the Rumble will be cut short.
In The Ring:
The Miz
William Regal
Sheamus
ONE Filler
Hunico
Ezekiel Jackson
Yoshi Tatsu
Primo
Through the Sea of Fillers, Cody Rhodes Will Enter at 14
Entering at 14, None Other then Cody Rhodes
Cody Rhodes enters the Rumble at 14 and goes on a nice run. He enters the ring hitting a couple of Cross Rhodes and does a wicked smile at the camera like only a dashing one can do.
Nine men in the ring at the same time will be the max for this Rumble match.
In The Ring:
The Miz
William Regal
Sheamus
Ezekiel Jackon
One filler
Cody Rhodes
Hunico
Yoshi Tatsu
Primo
The Best Worker of the Match Will Be: Cody Rhodes
We Will See a lot of Cross Rhodes on Sunday
Cody Rhodes will come into the match on fire and eliminate Ezekiel Jackson and Tatsu.
Meanwhile the veteran Englishmen, William Regal, just pulled one over on Hunico scoring one for Mother England. Sheamus just tossed over a random filler entrant in the match. Primo hangs on.
In The Ring:
The Miz
William Regal
Sheamus
Cody Rhodes
Primo
The Wildcard of the Match Will Be: Brodus Clay
Brodus Clay Enters at 15th
With Cody Rhodes matching Sheamus as an early favorite, Brodus Clay comes out and adds some much needed funk to the match.
In The Ring:
The Miz
William Regal
Sheamus
Cody Rhodes
Brodus Clay
Primo
Brodus Clay Will Replace Sheamus as the Favorite
The Funkasaurs will be having a blast come Sunday
Clay comes in and wears down on what is now mostly a fatigue-filled ring. The Miz has gone from middle of the dance to hiding out behind the bleachers at the announcer's table.
With a filled ring, most are occupied by the bout going on in the ring. With Brodus Clay the fresher man and a credible contender, expect him to replace Sheamus as the favorite for now.
In the Ring:
The Miz
William Regal
Sheamus
Cody Rhodes
Brodus Clay
Primo
Brodus Will Eliminate Some of the Fillers, Rhodes Hangs on
Brodus Clay Hits What The Funk
In the middle of busting a couple of dance moves, Brodus Clay will find time to send Primo and William Regal over the ropes. Sheamus and Rhodes will both be slowed down by Clay's moves.
The Miz's eyes will most likely be on either Michael Cole or Clay's dancers.
In The Ring:
The Miz
Sheamus
Cody Rhodes
Brodus Clay
In the Ring at This Moment: Rumble Update
Half Way Through the Event
Let's take a moment to reset the stage here. We are half way through the Rumble and have four clear favorites. Brodus Clay, Sheamus, Rhodes, and Miz are all nice picks at this moment to go the distance.
But remember this is the Royal Rumble. A surprise entrance can come in and change all of this in one moment. With 15 down and 15 more to go, who knows what is in store for the second half of the match.
In The Ring:
Brodus Clay (15)
Sheamus (9)
Cody Rhodes (14)
The Miz (1)
Entrants So Far: 15
The Last Person to Enter: Brodus Clay
Favorite: Brodus Clay
Sleeper: Cody Rhodes
Closest To Elimination: Sheamus
Early Shocker of the Night: Goldust Enters and Eliminates Rhodes
Goldust Enters the Rumble
The one man that will change this Royal Rumble is none other than Cody Rhodes' older brother, Goldust.
Expect Rhodes to be shocked by his brother's entrance. The shock will lead to Cody being tossed out by Goldust—an early favorite slain by the unpredictable nature of the Rumble.
In The Ring:
Brodus Clay
Sheamus
Goldust
The Miz
Brodus Clay and Goldust Will Create a Rumble Moment
It Would be a Fun Sight to Actually See Brodus Clay and Goldust in the Ring at the Same Time Come Sunday
OK, so we have a tired Sheamus, Brodus Clay and Goldust in the ring with the Miz lurking in and out of the ring.
With Goldust and Clay in close of range of one another, I expect a crazy moment to happen. In fact, it will be a big disappointment if Brodus Clay and Goldust were actually in the ring together and nothing funny or crazy happened.
I will leave it up to you to decide what happens here.
In The Ring:
Brodus Clay
Sheamus
Goldust
The Miz
The Funk Will Be Ended By: Sheamus
Sheamus is one of the few guys who could Eliminate Brodus Clay and not cause him to lose credibility
While Brodus Clay is having a good time in the ring, I expect a rejuvenated Sheamus to eliminate Brodus Clay in a shocking turn of events. Hopefully this teaches Clay a lesson about always being on guard and ready for in-ring action.
In The Ring:
Goldust
Sheamus
The Miz
Key Moment: Sheamus Will Reclaim Early Favorite Status
Sheamus Will Bulldoze through Goldust and a Hit and Running Miz
With Clay gone, Sheamus has regained his title as a favorite. He then sets his eyes on Goldust.
Miz is back into the fray, but not for long.
In The Ring:
Goldust
Sheamus
The Miz
The Miz Will Find a Way to Duck Opponents and Stick Around
The Miz Will Be a Massive Thorn in the Side of His Opponents Sunday
The Miz entered at No. 1 and has done a nice job on picking his moves and striking while the iron is hot. With Goldust and Sheamus left battling in the ring, the time is now for him to strike again.
In The Ring:
Goldust
Sheamus
The Miz
The Miz Will Eliminate Goldust Before Leaving the Ring Again
Dustin Will Have a Nice Showing, But Is No Match for Miz
Goldust's magic run in the Rumble will end here. While trying to escape the wrath of Sheamus, he gets tossed over the ropes by a reemerging Miz.
The Miz gloats before he realizes that Sheamus is also still in the Rumble and is waiting to pounce.
In The Ring:
Sheamus
The Miz
Sheamus Will Drag the Miz Back into the Ring
The Miz Will Suffer A Brogue Kick to the Face
Realizing Sheamus is behind him, The Miz quickly exits the ring under the bottom rope. Sheamus follows suits chasing after The Miz.
With both exiting under the bottom rope neither are eliminated. Sheamus eventually catches Miz and drags him back to the ring. Sheamus is about to eliminate the Miz but is surprised by the 17th entrant.
In The Ring:
Sheamus
The Miz
The First Surprise of the Night: Christian Returns
And Entering At 17, A Returning Christian
That 17th entrant is none other than a returning Christian.
Sheamus drops the Miz and waits for Christian to enter the ring. Christian enters and a slug fest between the two begins. He gains some ground but is attacked from behind by The Miz.
Sheamus fights off Miz but is then blindsided by Christian.
In The Ring:
Christian
Sheamus
The Miz
The Biggest Elimination at This Point Will Be: Christian Eliminating Sheamus
Christian Gloats Like No Other
Christian, having the advantage over his rival, eliminates Sheamus causing a big ruckus inside the Scottrade Center in St. Louis. The Miz slips out under the bottom rope again to rest while Christian gloats.
In The Ring:
Christian
The Miz
A Random Entrant: Drew McIntyre
With the Fans Expecting Randy Orton, Drew McIntyre Will Be a Nice Tease at 18th
The fans at home and in the arena are expecting Orton; however, they will get a nice tease.
With the ring dwindling down to only two men, it is about time for another random entrant to come in and do some damage control. The random entrant that fits in this spot well is Drew McIntyre.
With Christian and Miz in the ring, McIntyre can get a nice pop and save his job at the same time by holding his ground against the duo.
In The Ring:
Christian
The Miz
Drew McIntyre
McIntyre Will Look Damn Good, Random Filler Enters
Drew McIntyre Will Have A Nice Showing at the Rumble
McIntyre comes in and grounds Christian. The Miz is a bit fatigued and is not trying to do too much, so he lets Christian take the fall. At this moment, McIntyre is the freshest and is starting to get into a groove.
Expect him to unleash an arsenal moves on Christian and come close to eliminating the former World Heavyweight Champion.
Christian manages to reverse a Future Shock and hit a Killswitch causing the Rumble field to freeze. A filler/small surpise entrant will enter. Christian manages to get back up and hit another Killswitch on the filler.
A little more showboating is in order for all the peeps.
In The Ring:
Christian
The Miz
Drew McIntyre

In The Ring:
The Miz
Drew McIntyre

Orton Goes on a Decent Run: McIntyre and a Extra Body Is Eliminated
Well Evan Bourne Will Not Be Taking An RKO This Sunday
In this moment, the filler will try to attack Randy Orton only to find himself eliminated in the process. McIntyre will also be eliminated a short time later.
Orton goes after The Miz but gets a thumb to the eye as Miz once again rolls out of the ring avoiding elimination.
In The Ring:
The Miz
Orton
The Miz Will Continue to Find Ways to Stick Around
The Miz Will Be A Formidable Challenge to Orton
Like he did to Sheamus earlier, The Miz will outmaneuver Orton and hang tough through the Viper's onslaught.
Orton appears in control and it seems like he will cruise to a victory if he can get past The Miz with Sheamus, Clay, Christian, R Truth, and Cody Rhodes already eliminated.
In The Ring:
The Miz
Orton
The Entrant That Will Reset the Field: Jack Swagger
Jack Swagger Slows Down Cena and Kofi's Run at the 2011 Royal Rumble
That is, until Jack Swagger enters the Rumble. Swagger is the ultimate field setter for this event entering at 21. He will not only stop Orton in this spot he will flat out dominate him and ground his momentum.
While he won't eliminate any one, he is a big body and will be a much bigger threat due to the fatigue of Miz and Orton.
Much like Mason Ryan and William Regal, his job is to set up shop for the second half of the Rumble, and for him to do that he has to at least slow down The Miz and Randy Orton so the ring can fill back up.
Swagger will go to work on the ring like he did to John Cena and Kofi Kingston at the 2011 Royal Rumble.
In The Ring:
The Miz
Orton
Jack Swagger
Jack Swagger Will Pick Apart and Dominate Orton and Miz
Only In the Rumble Could Swagger Halt the Momentum of Randy Orton
As I mentioned in my last post, Swagger will come in and put a stop to Orton. He won't eliminate Miz or Orton but he will at this point be labelled as the favorite. Some showboating here and there and a couple of push ups to get the boos birds chirping in Orton's hometown city.
In The Ring:
The Miz
Orton
Jack Swagger
Funniest Superstar of the Match: Santino Marella Enters at 22
Santino Marella Will Recieve One of the Biggest Pops of the Night
Santino Marella comes in as the comic relief factor. Expect a couple of laps around the ring, aggravating Jack Swagger in the process—all part of the Santino's master plan.
Jack Swagger just lost his focus.
In The Ring:
The Miz
Orton
Jack Swagger
Santino
Santino Will End Swagger's Run
Speaking of Swagger, that dominant run he had earlier will all come crashing down in this one instant. Santino, to the shock of no one except the announcing team, will unleash a couple of unorthodox moves and land a Cobra on Swagger.
Santino celebrates as Miz and Orton gets some much needed rest. Santino for a brief moment in time is a Rumble favorite. This gives the announcers a chance to remind folks that Santino did finish runner up last year and might at least repeat the feat again.
In The Ring:
The Miz
Orton
Jack Swagger
Santino
Just a Little More Filler: Tyson Kidd Enters at 23
Tyson Kidd Comes In As Random Filler
We are getting closer to the end, and one of our last fillers has entered the match: that man being Tyson Kidd. At this moment with Santino as the "favorite" in the ring standing, Tyson Kidd will get a chance to show off a couple of moves.
That is, until he is grounded by The Miz. Swagger will work on Orton to make sure things go according to plans. No eliminations here.
In The Ring:
The Miz
Orton
Jack Swagger
Santino

A True Sleeper Pick Finally Arrives: Kofi Kingston Enters the Rumble at 24
Kofi Kingston Arrives In at 24th
Kofi Kingston makes his way to the ring in a pretty good spot. A spot so good, that it is a smart choice to label him as the sleeper pick at this point.
With a tired Miz; a wounded Orton and Swagger, Santino and Tyson Kidd being the freshest in the ring; Kofi Kingston is about to have a field day.
In The Ring:
The Miz
Orton
Jack Swagger
Santino

Those Remaining in the Rumble at This Time
With 24 Down, Who are the Last Six Entrants
Kofi's arrival signals a change in the caliber of the guys remaining.
With Orton still reeling from an attack by Jack Swagger, it is slowly starting to become anyone's ball game. So much that Santino is starting to get hyped as a favorite.
The Miz is on his last legs and is holding on for dear life.
In The Ring:
The Miz (1)
Orton (20)
Jack Swagger (21)
Santino (22)

Closest to Elimination: The Miz
Kofi Will Go on a Controlled Frenzy: Orton and Miz Comes Close to Elimination

In The Ring:
The Miz
Orton
Jack Swagger
Santino
Tyson Kidd
Kofi Kingston
Kofi's Frenzy Will Claim Tyson Kidd
Well Kidd You Had a Nice Run
The Frenzy is going to claim someone in the ring, and the person fate chooses is none of than Tyson Kidd. He had a good showing and did his job as a filler.
By the grace of the wrestling gods, Santino escpaes elimination from Swagger and hangs on in the match
In The Ring:
The Miz
Orton
Jack Swagger
Santino
Kofi Kingston
Kingston Will Be Hyped as the Favorite, Miz Is Given Credit for His Endurance
It Wouldn't Be A WWE Event if Cole and The King Didn't Get Into It
With that elimination, Kofi Kingston will begin to recieve some favorite hype. The Miz entered at No. 1 and has outlasted a good portion of the field.
He will receive a nice round of applause from Michael Cole. The King will be there to remind him that the Miz spent most of the match outside of the ring. A verbal battle between the two will ensue.
In The Ring:
The Miz
Orton
Jack Swagger
Santino
Kofi Kingston
Wade Barrett Will Enter 25th and Will Receive an RKO from Orton
Come Sunday, Wade Will Be Down Earlier But Certainly Not Out
Wade Barrett comes in and makes his way to what he believes is a downed Orton.
But like the Apex predator that he is, Orton lands an RKO which leaves Wade stunned and laid out. He attempts an elimination but is stopped by Swagger and Miz. While not eliminated, it will be a while before Wade's Barrage gets going in the right direction.
In The Ring:
The Miz
Orton
Jack Swagger
Santino
Kofi Kingston
Wade Barrett
The 26th Entrant Will Be: Mick Foley
Loud Pops Surely Are to Follow Once This Theme Hits
Mama Foley's baby boy enters the Rumble with a massive pop—a fan favorite for sure. Expect him to hit a couple of signature moves on the likes of Miz and Swagger but no eliminations from Foley here. A small stare down with Orton will be squeezed in.
In The Ring:

Mr. Socko Will Finally Meet the Cobra
Mr. Socko vs Cobra Is a Dream Match Waiting to Happen

Orton
Jack Swagger
Santino
Kofi Kingston
Wade Barrett
Mick Foley
The 27th Entrant: David Otunga
David Otunga Enters at the Historic 27th Spot
David Otunga has only two jobs here. Occupy the 27th spot so that way we know the winner will not be from this entrance for the fifth time in history and take out Foley.
Anything other than that would be completely unexpected. The announce team will play up to the 27th spot and its history. Just pay them no mind.

Law and Order Will Prevail: Otunga Eliminates Foley
Foley Live His Dreams of Entering Another Rumble Come Sunday, However the Moment Will Be a Short Lived One
Despite a good fight from Mick, Otunga does his job and takes out Foley for John Laurinaitis with help from Swagger and Miz. He gets a nice heel reaction from the crowd.
He showboats, but, as you've seen in this Rumble, showboating in a packed ring normally does not end well.
In The Ring:
The Miz
Orton

Santino
Kofi Kingston

David Otunga
Wade Barrett Will Recover and Eliminate David Otunga
Wade is Finally Moving His Barrage Northward
After receiving an RKO, Barrett was almost done for.
Luckily, he recovers in time to send his former Nexus ally, David Otunga, back to the locker room with a small assist from Santino. Speaking of Santino, Wade dodges his Cobra and lands a wasteland to poor old Marella.

The 30th Entrant Will Be a Unique One: CM Punk Intro Hits
For the First Time Ever, EVERY Superstar is Eligible
"For the first time ever, EVERY WWE Superstar is eligible to enter" into this year's Royal Rumble.
Some have taken this to mean that both the WWE and WHC title holders are cleared to enter the event. In the 30th spot I expect to see the WWE Champion CM Punk enter the match. You guessed it, in this simulation he retains the title over Dolph Ziggler.
CM Punk will pick up on that phrase "Everyone Can Enter" and use it as his chance to enter the Rumble.

Kofi Kingston is still the sleeper and The Miz is this year's endurance warrior. Wade Barrett Has formed an alliance with Miz and has established himself as the dark horse pick.

Swagger Gets Cocky and Is Sent Packing by Punk and Kane
Swagger's cockiness is bound to cost him the Rumble
Swagger did a fantastic job in grounding Orton and the Miz, so the 30th entrant can come into the match with a pretty packed ring. With that said, it is about time to clear the ring of the last setter.
The U.S Champion's cockiness will more than likely cost him the real event, so it is only right for it to cost him here. Jack Swagger crosses the wrong guys in CM Punk and Kane, and gets eliminated.

CM Punk Will Go on a Magical Run: Kane Is Eliminated
You Just Got Eliminated, Why Are You Laughing?
Like March Madness during college basketball season, the Rumble always has a Cinderella story. I expect that this year WWE Champion CM Punk entering at the 30th spot will be the one wearing the glass slipper heading into the final stages. After helping Kane eliminate Swagger, Punk takes out Kane.

Punk's Run in the Rumble Will Only Last A Couple of Rounds
After eliminating Kane, CM Punk is distracted for a brief second as fatigue starts to set in from participating in his now-second match of the night. In this moment Chris Jericho eliminates CM Punk, thus ending Punk's chances of possibly reuniting the WWE and World Heavyweight Championship.
An irate CM Punk will give a mean callous stare to Jericho before heading back to the locker room.

It is time for the Miz to get more run. So far he has been in there the longest and is closing in on going the distance.
Unlike past guys who entered No.1 and tried to go the distance, The Miz has spent most of his time outside the ring and dodging heavy hitters like Sheamus, Brodus Clay, Randy Orton and Chris Jericho. With that said, he has a bit more fuel left in the tank.
