0 of 5

As we continue to rank the best players in their respective positions, we preview the best the Premier League has to offer in terms of wide players at the back.

The most important attributes necessary for a left or right back has got to be pace, the ability to push the ball up and be able to find yourself back in a defensive position when required to.

Playing in the Premier League requires the fitness of players to be at an all-time high, with the most important players at times been the left and right back.

Benoît Assou-Ekotto

1 of 5

    Club: Tottenham Hotspurs

    Age: 27

    Nationality: Cameroonian

As mentioned in previous slides, Spurs seems to be hitting top-gear as they look to challenge the big names of Manchester.

Assou-Ekotto is amongst the top performers in the squad and a regular starter, his speed, quick feet and ability to get back in time to assist in the defense has made him key to Spurs challenge.

Patrice Evra

2 of 5

    Club: Manchester United

    Age: 30

    Nationality: French

The Frenchman has always been in the picture in terms of top performing defenders, although having slipped away slightly towards the end of last season.

This season he has been back with a bang, having made an impact in every single game, as United look to retain their crown to the title and hold off city rivals Manchester City.

Evra, now wearing the arm-band as Nemanja Vidic is sidelined with a major injury, has been selected ahead of a number of senior players.

Kyle Walker

3 of 5

    Club: Tottenham Hotspurs

    Age: 21

    Nationality: English

Having previously been sent out on loan, Walker has returned looking like a player ready for the Premier League.

It seems he's accustomed himself to the fast pace and toughness that the league brings along with it.

Spurs seems to be having players in every position with sufficient ability to make them so attractive right now, Harry will look to protect his players from the evil eye of the wealthy clubs.

Micah Richards

4 of 5

    Club: Manchester City

    Age: 23

    Nationality: English

It's definitely a boost for England to have two excellent right backs in such good nick, as Micah continues to impress us.

Richards has been on the scene for quite a while, having lost his place in the starting 11 for a long duration.

Now he's back and looks good as ever, only 23 and with a bright future ahead, playing alongside some of the world's top players in what is the world's richest club.

Ashley Williams

5 of 5

    Club: Swansea

    Age: 27

    Nationality: Welsh

Not too well known prior to this season, the unfamiliar face of Williams is catching the headlines as his Welsh team proves they have the mettle to stand along with the big boys.

Williams himself has been excellent, and without a doubt deserves this mention in the top five current defenders along the wider areas.

He has the pace, strength and, most importantly, the determination, a characteristic which is more vital when playing for a smaller team.
