There's a running joke that NFL commissioner Roger Goodell has turned America's most popular sport into the "No Fun League," and if you believe it then you're in for several more years of that because the NFL has extended his contract.

Daniel Kaplan covers the NFL for the Sports Business Journal, and he tweeted the breaking news about Goodell's contract.

It's no secret Goodell has cracked down on the league. Players have been getting fined more and more in recent years because Goodell and the NFL continue to focus on player safety.

No word just yet on how much he will be making, but he did make $10 million before, so one would think he pushed for some sort of pay increase with this new deal.

Goodell first took over as NFL commissioner in 2006, succeeding Paul Tagliabue, who had held that position since 1989.

He's in a powerful position, ruling over a sport that continues to grow with each year. The NFL is without a doubt the one sport in America with the strongest following, and Goodell has helped the league get bigger and richer during his tenure.

Despite being criticized for his actions by players, coaches and fans, Goodell is helping to better the league.

Player safety is very important, as well as making sure the image of the NFL isn't tarnished by off-the-field incidents from its employees.

The personal conduct policy Goodell announced has seen several players get suspended because they failed to meet expectations. After all, playing in the NFL is their job, and they should be punished for their wrongdoings.

Whether or not you like the man, you'll have to get used to him because he's going to be around the NFL for a long time.
