Australian Open 2012 Semifinals: Federer Would Make Nadal Regret Crossing Him

Jun 7, 2018

Roger Federer is still one of the best players in the world. While it’s true that he has lost a step, his added motivation against Rafael Nadal if they should play in the semi finals would be too much for Nadal to handle.

Federer wouldn’t just win, he would mop the court up with him because of all the trash he has been talking over the last few weeks.

With all of the talk now about how long the calendar is in terms of events for the pros, many of the players have come out publicly about their grievances. Federer was not one of them.

Apparently, that bothered Nadal and he told NBC Sports about Federer’s willingness to let other take the flack for him:

"

No, I totally disagree. For him it's good to say nothing. Everything positive. 'It's all well and good for me, I look like a gentleman,' and the rest can burn themselves.

"

Wow, harsh words from the guy that wears and dresses in flamboyant colors and fashions.

Before Nadal opens his mouth again, he should consider the fact that the man he is talking about is twice the player he will ever be.

Federer responded to ESPN about the verbal jabs from Nadal and took a few of his own:

"

I completely understand and support the players' opinions. I just have a different way of going at it. I'm not discussing it with you guys in the press room. It creates unfortunately sometimes negative stories.

"

While Federer is notoriously cool headed when faced with adversity, he showed enough emotion to lend the reader to belief that anger is setting in a bit.

That means if and when they eventually meet in the semifinals of the 2012 Australian Open, Federer will be playing madder than he has in years. That drive that people say he has been lacking, he may have found it in the loose lipped comments of his biggest foe.

With all the pressure on Nadal to back up the rash he talked, Federer will attack this match with everything he has and destroy Nadal. This will not only put the tennis world back on its ear, it will continue what has become the best feud in tennis.

Now if we could just get this as a final again. Maybe Novak Djokovic will get sick before the French Open.
