The 2012 Royal Rumble is just seven days away, and wrestling fans are on the edge of their seats wondering who will win the 30-man, over the top Battle Royale.
Some of the greatest WWE superstars of all time have received their big break at the Royal Rumble and have gone on to have memorable careers. There are several WWE wrestlers on the roster who could really benefit from a massive push at one of the biggest pay-per-views of the year.
Here are the top five, from No. 5 to No. 1.
Although 2011 was a less than stellar year booking-wise for Ron “R-Truth” Killings, 2012 could shape up to be a much better year for him.
His current feud with The Miz could earn him some higher profile feuds with such main event talent as CM Punk, Randy Orton, and others.
The WWE Royal Rumble would be the perfect event to put R-Truth over as a legitimate talent, and not just another one-dimensional character.
A former World Heavyweight and WWE United States Champion, Dolph Ziggler is no stranger to championship gold.
A lot of wrestling fans would argue that he is getting a massive push facing CM Punk for the WWE Championship at the Royal Rumble, but it would be an even bigger push if he actually wins the richest prize in pro wrestling.
What better event to do this than the WWE Royal Rumble?
The “Funkasaurus” made his debut a few weeks ago and was met with a mixed reaction from wrestling fans.
From a booking standpoint, his new and improved gimmick will have more of an impact than having him portrayed as the cookie cutter “monster,” which the WWE has more than enough of.
Clay getting a massive push at the Royal Rumble would be the proverbial cherry on top of the sundae for the man from “Planet Funk.”
The former Corre member and NXT participant, Justin Gabriel has spent most of his career in the WWE drifting around the mid-card, with no real direction.
He is currently positioned to feud with WWE Intercontinental Champion Cody Rhodes. Although the IC Title may not be involved in this feud, Gabriel's career would get a real shot in the arm by wrestling Rhodes. The Royal Rumble would be a great way to showcase this feud, and to showcase Gabriel's talents in the ring.
And now, the No. 1 WWE Superstar who could really use a push at the Royal Rumble...
A lot of wrestling fans would scratch their heads on this one.
He is the World Heavyweight Champion, yes, but if he loses the title at the Royal Rumble, then he will be known as just another transitional champion.
Bryan is just getting his feet wet on how to become a successful heel champion, and yanking that title away will obviously kill the buzz and momentum of his character.
If he's booked to beat The Big Show and Mark Henry to retain the title, then that would be a tremendous push that his career and his character need.
The WWE Royal Rumble would be the event to accomplish that push.
