I am a fan of Ted DiBiase. The man has a bright future in WWE. The company has been good to him over the past few years, and the sky is the limit for Mr. DiBiase!
Sadly, I do not have any emotional investment into his character right now. He had been a solid heel since debuting. However, he recently turned face to mixed results.
I think the crowd wants to cheer him. The crowd seems to want to back him towards a title run. They want to see what he can do in a bigger role. Maybe they're looking for a reason to care.
Right now, WWE is not giving me a reason to care about Ted DiBiase.
I am sorry, but this character change needs to keep evolving or else it won't last. Magically showing up as a good guy one show is not the way to go about it. Neither is breaking off a relationship with Maryse (on camera). Fans didn't buy that story line one bit.
First, the theme music has to go. Talking about being rich and having money may be fun, but it won't win over any new fans. The WWE Universe hears the music. They see the dollar signs. The lyrics do not do him any favors.
Secondly, the "DiBiase Posse" needs to be shown more. Where are the shirts? Get WWE to make a couple thousand! Do not go overboard with it, in case you have a ton of inventory left over. Just get the gimmick out there to the audience!
Michael Cole talks about each and every Smackdown episode. Yet he does it in a sarcastic tone and makes fun of it. I remember WWE showed highlights of a party a few weeks ago outside the arena.
Do that every week!
Make some posters promoting the event for all of Ted DiBiase's fans. Make the announcement on their website about when and where to meet. Make the get-together a fun gathering before every WWE event. It may or may not work. However, it doesn't hurt to try.
Finally, he needs to be in an actual storyline to get the crowd behind him. His feud with Hunico is doing nothing for him. Making him a flag-waving patriot is about as weak as it gets. What is next? He comes out chanting "USA!" just get to cheers from the live crowd.
Come on. You are better than that. Please do not resort to such a cheap tactic for a face!
In the end, I want to care about this guy.
He had a nice run with Cody Rhodes. Pairing him with Randy Orton years ago was a nice launch pad. I even enjoyed his feud with Goldust in 2010. All of that is out the window!
He is a face now! I am supposed to cheer him. Make me care about him, WWE! Please.
In conclusion, I am going to WWE Elimination Chamber next month. I will be in Milwaukee watching the PPV event in February! By then, I wish to be a big supporter of Ted DiBiase and hope to be a proud member of the "DiBiase Posse" having a party outside the arena by then!
