Minnesota Nike Uniforms Video: Gophers Use Jay-Z and Rihanna to Unveil New Unis
The Golden Gophers want to get you hyped about their upcoming season, and the uniforms they will wear. The production value is high in this video and the musical talent is top notch, but its time for Minny to bring the fans something to dance about on the field. Jay-Z and Rihanna bring the noise with the hit "Run This Town." Though it was probably not planned, but better all the same, Kanye West's verse was omitted from the video. Wow, even the Gophers don't dig Ye.
The Gophers are coming off their third consecutive losing season, and their second bowl-less postseason. Still, the video is exciting and uniforms look pretty slick. Think Michigan with the maize subbed with gold and the blue subbed with maroon.
Junior LB Keanon Cooper, junior WR Brandon Green, freshman DE Ben Perry and QB Marqueis Gray all make appearances as they model the jerseys and helmets in the video. Gray is seen in the yellow top alternate jersey, and he of course gets the most face time.
Of course, a Nike video isn't complete without a shot of some featured athletic shoes. The Gophers' colored cleats are on display as well, and they are sweet. They are far and away my favorite part of the Gophers' new get ups.
Now, all they need to do, is string together some wins to get their new unis some extra added exposure in the 2012 season. They do have some exciting young talent lead by Marquies Gray and Ben Perry. Hopefully, they can step up and lead the Gophers back to postseason play.
