Deron Williams wants to stay with the Nets as long as they will be able to compete. Williams made it known that if he does not re-sign with the Nets that he would like his preferred team are the Mavericks, the Knicks and the Lakers.

If the Nets can not acquire Dwight Howard or prove that they can start to win games, Williams will not resign. So if they can not do these things they should look to get some return on their investment, and trade Williams.

Here is a look at five teams that the Nets can trade Williams to, and what they will get back.

Amar'e Stoudemire

The Knicks brought in two star players last season, Carmelo Anthony and Amar'e Stoudemire. They made the playoffs last season but were swept out of the first round by the Boston Celtics.

Then in the offseason they acquired one of the best defensive centers, Tyson Chandler. The feeling around the team was that they were NBA title contenders.

About a quarter the way through the season the Knicks are three games under .500 and holding on to the eighth spot in the division by the skin of their teeth. The biggest concern is at the point guard position. Anthony leads the team with 4.1 assists per game.

The Knicks are one of Williams' preferred teams if he leaves the Nets and they may need to get rid of one their star players in order to round out their team better. That star would most likely be Stoudemire. The Nets could look to get back Amar'e Stoudemire as the key player in the deal. They could also include a third and/or fourth team and try to get draft picks and other role players with this deal.

Andrew Bynum

Another team that the Nets could make a deal with that is on Williams' wish list is the Los Angeles Lakers. The Lakers were interested in trying to acquire Chris Paul before he was traded to the Clippers.

They should have interest in trying to acquire Deron Williams if he becomes available. The Nets would have to take at least get back Andrew Bynum in return and they could do a few things with him. The Nets have Brook Lopez and they could pair them together the same way the Lakers pair Bynum and Gasol. Or they could trade either Lopez or Bynum and try to get a star player who will be committed to the Nets.

Rajon Rondo

The Celtics have not had the start of the season they were hoping for and that has caused some talks about breaking up their "Big Three."

They could also make one last run at an NBA Championship and try and get Deron Williams. The Celtics could give up Rajon Rondo for Williams and upgrade at the point guard position.

This would depend on whether Williams would be willing to resign with the Celtics because in the coming years the Celts will probably be going into a rebuilding stage and they would like to have either Rondo or Williams to build around.
