Welcome,

Here are the latest in Hockey trade rumors, and of course my opinion included.

First I will start off with the Calgary Flames (since I'm a die hard Flames fan). I have heard a lot of talk surrounding Mats Sundin, possible deal would have Sundin going to the Flames in return Calgary would send Alex Tanguay, a prospect ( maybe David Moss) and a draft pick. Calgary would also like a roster player  to be included in this deal as Sundin will resign with Toronto next season, the player that could be part of the deal is Nik Antropov who is still under contract for next season. Another interesting deal involving a centerman is Olie Jokinen, it's believed that Jokinen is high on Calgary's list, a deal could see Tanguay and a top prospect going to Florida for Jokinen.

I believe that these would both be great players to land, both are centers that would play well on a line with Iggy and Huselius. I believe that Jokinen is the better of those 2 deals, he is younger and still has 2 years remaining on his current contract. I believe Calgary will make Jokinen their #1 priority, if they cannot land Jokinen look for Calgary G.M. Darryl Sutter to a make a push for Sundin.

Other possible moves on or before the deadline: San Jose will be in the thick of things; look for the Sharks to land a stud defenceman, the key to making a deep run into the playoffs. San Jose G.M.  is interested in Brad Stuart, word is San Jose is trying to lock up Stuart to a long term deal, and L.A is in selling mode. Another name that is sure to be moved is Marian Hossa, word is that contract talks between Hossa and Atlanta have stalled, and Montreal is the front-runner in the Hossa sweepstakes, Atlanta would be looking for a roster palyer and a draft pick or two, C Chris Higgins maybe part of the Hossa deal. I have heard some wisperings of Tampa Bay and Brad Richards, word is Tampa is close to resigning D Dan Boyle, but for that to happen they have dump some salary. Richards still has 3 years at 7.5 million per year left on his contract, Tampa is in need of some goaltending, there are not alot of teams that have the caps space to affords Richards..... hopefully more to come from this.

Other Names that may be on the move: Rob Blake/Ladislav Nagy/Vaclav Prospal/Brian Campbell/Joni Pitkanen/Jason Blake/Micheal Rider....will have more names to come as deadline approaches.

Final Words

I believe Toronto will have the most to gain from the trade deadline, they could be like St. Louis was, when they traded C Doug Weight and LW Keith Tkachuk and recieved prospects, draft picks, then resigned both players in the off-season. If Toronto are sellers at the deadline we will see a different team in Maple Leaf town next season!!

Until next time...
