Liverpool Transfer Rumours: 10 Defenders Linked to Anfield
Liverpool need offensive help more than anything right now, and there have been rumours of defenders being linked with the club.
Liverpool's defense is the second best in the league, having given up 18 goals while Manchester City has allowed 16.
In the long term, Liverpool could use some additional depth as centrally Daniel Agger is prone to the occasional injury, Jamie Carragher is on his last legs, while out wide the team is relying on the fitness of mainly Glen Johnson and Jose Enrique.
Here are some defenders that have been linked with Liverpool.

According to Footybunker.com, Liverpool may be considering a move for Celtic full-back Adam Matthews. The Welsh player joined Celtic over the summer so if a move were to happen, Liverpool would have to spend a decent sum of money.
Matthews plays right-back and while the current starter, Glen Johnson, is approaching 30, there is still a player waiting in the wings in the form of Martin Kelly. It remains to be seen just how much of an interest Liverpool really has.

Scott Dann has come up in recent rumours concerning Liverpool. The Blackburn defender has been linked with a move to Merseyside upon the news that his teammate, Christopher Samba, could also be leaving.
Dann could be a good depth addition to the squad though the team already has Daniel Agger, Martin Skrtel, Jamie Carragher, Sebastian Coates and, if he stays, youngster Danny Wilson.

Jan Vertonghen hasn't popped up in any rumours recently, but he has been linked to a number of top clubs, Liverpool included. A variety of sites, like Tribalfootball.com, reported that Liverpool would make a January bid for Jan Vertonghen.
There is not much of a possibility of any such move happening in January, but summer may see interests rekindled and the Belgian having to choose between Liverpool and other suitors.

Earlier in the season, according to MirrorFootball.com, Liverpool were interested in Newcastle defender Fabricio Coloccini.
This would be a pretty hard transfer for Liverpool to complete and one that Liverpool may not have much intention of pursuing.

Ryan Shawcross was reportedly a Liverpool transfer target this summer. Shawcross would have added some youth to Liverpool's central defensive areas, and he is a player who could also cover at right-back if needed.
Kenny Daglish has brought in a lot of British players in his last two windows, and Shawcross would have added to that tally. If there is any interest, it will more likely be rekindled in the summer.

Diego Godin was linked with Liverpool over the summer and be a solid addition to the club. The Uruguayan defender would come with a good amount of experience, both internationally and in European competition.

Christopher Samba recently handed in a transfer request that was denied by his club, Blackburn.
Liverpool were one of the clubs linked with a move for the strong defender and although a January move is unlikely, the summer may present a very good opportunity for both parties.

Mateo Musacchio is a player with a promising future. It has been a while since Liverpool have been linked with the Villarreal defender, but a move is always a possibility.
Jamie Carragher may be on his last legs and Liverpool could see Mateo Musacchio as another possible youthful addition to the squad, and one that comes with a great amount of top-level experience.
According to the Daily Mail, Liverpool were interested in Porto full-back Jorge Fucile. Fucile would be able to provide depth on either side of defense and is a player with good experience.
Fucile is also Uruguayan and could be useful in giving star striker Luis Suarez another compatriot to share his time with at Liverpool.
