Liverpool Transfer Rumours: 12 Midfielders Linked to Anfield
Liverpool have had a period of transition in the last couple of seasons but with new owners taking over and Kenny Dalglish as the manager, they have attained stability and will want to qualify for the Champions League this season. The new owners have provided the transfer funds to Dalglish in the last two transfer windows and he has brought in a number of new players.
Though Liverpool have played good attacking football, they have not been as consistent as they should be.
They have dropped a number of points at home, which is a concern for the club, but with the return of Steven Gerrard, they will hope that they can push on to finish in the top four this season. With Tottenham in fantastic form this season, it is increasingly looking likely that it will be Chelsea, Arsenal and Liverpool fighting for the fourth place.
This January transfer window could be very important for the Reds because it could be used to strengthen their squad to achieve the necessary. Here are 12 midfielders linked to a move to Anfield.
Eden Hazard (Lille)
Lille midfielder Eden Hazard is one of the best young players in the world and is one of the most sought-after players as well. The Belgian international is very talented and could make a huge difference to the Reds if they are able to sign the winger.
He has been very consistent for Lille and though he can develop into an even better player, he is already one of the best midfielders in the world.
Liverpool are one of the clubs who have been linked with the midfielder and it would be a major coup for the Reds if they are able to convince him of their ambitions. The owners have shown that they are ready to invest in the long-term interests of the club, and Hazard would certainly be a great addition to the side.
Joe Allen (Swansea)
Swansea have been one of the best additions to the Premiership this season as their style of play has won praise from many people. Credit has to given to their manager, Brendan Rodgers, who has helped this team to achieve success.
They do have some excellent players who have impressed this season. One of their most important players has been 21-year-old Wales international Joe Allen, who even outshone his captain Aaron Ramsey in the game against Arsenal.
It will not be surprising if he is targeted by a big club, and Liverpool have already been linked with the central midfielder. It will be a difficult task for Rodgers to hold on to his best players but he will surely try his best. It could be an astute acquisition for the Reds as Allen is a player of immense talent and will only get better if he plays alongside better players.
Lucas Moura (Sao Paulo)
Lucas Moura is one of the hottest prospects in Brazilian football, so it is not a surprise that he has attracted the attentions of some of the biggest talents in the world.
Liverpool already have a talented Brazilian, Lucas, in their squad but Lucas Moura is a slightly different player in terms of his role for the team. The Sao Paulo midfielder is an attacking midfielder who is excellent technically and can create plenty of opportunities for the team.
He is one of the most highly rated midfielders in Brazil so his club are unlikely to sell the midfielder at a bargain price. It will be difficult to beat competition from various clubs for Lucas Moura's signature but if they do manage to sign him, it could be an excellent move considering that he is certain to make a huge impact if he settles with the team.
Cheick Tiote (Newcastle United)
Midfielder Lucas has been very important to the club in the last year but his long-term injury has been a big blow to the Reds, so Kenny Dalglish could look for a replacement in the January transfer window.
Newcastle midfielder Cheick Tiote could be one of the transfer targets for the Reds and he would essentially be the replacement for Lucas until he returns. Tiote has excelled for Newcastle and his partnership with Yohan Cabaye has been one of the key factors in their good performances this season.
The Ivory Coast midfielder has been linked with some clubs and though Newcastle will be reluctant to sell him, they have sold some of their stars in the best. If Liverpool make a huge offer, Alan Pardew could be forced to sell the midfielder.
Tiote could be a good addition because he would provide more steel and bite to the Reds midfield.
Esteban Granero (Real Madrid)
Esteban Granero is a midfielder who could be targeted by the Reds to provide quality depth as well as creativity to the team.
The Real Madrid midfielder has not had enough playing time and could be on the move in this January transfer window. With many quality players like Ricardo Kaka, Nuri Sahin and Mesut Ozil in the team, Granero could struggle to get much playing time in the future.
Liverpool do have quite a strong midfield but the addition of Granero will only help them as he will provide them quality depth and also good stability in midfield.
Though it is not certain if Jose Mourinho will let him leave in the January transfer window, it is possible if Kenny Dalglish makes an offer of the right amount to sign the midfielder.
Keisuke Honda (CSKA Moscow)
Keisuke Honda is one of the best players to emerge from Asia and who has been linked with a move to Liverpool. The Japanese midfielder impressed for his country at the World Cup and has the quality to play at the highest level.
His transfer would be a good move commercially for Liverpool as well, considering that they have an excellent support in Asia and would help improve their fanbase and commercial profits from that continent.
CSKA Moscow would be reluctant to sell the midfielder but if Liverpool are keen on landing the midfielder, then they do have a decent chance if they make the right offer.
Aaron Lennon (Tottenham)
Aaron Lennon is another player who has been linked with a move to Anfield, though it is probable that Harry Redknapp will be reluctant to lose Lennon in the January transfer window.
Liverpool still need a dynamic winger who can offer them pace, so Lennon would be a good signing for the Reds.
It is clear that Kenny Dalglish and Damien Comolli have concentrated on securing some young British talent, so Lennon would be an astute acquisition for the side.
The England international has been utilized a lot by Harry Redknapp but could move if he is not regularly starting games. With plenty of quality attacking players in the team, Lennon might have to be benched at Spurs, in which case Kenny Dalglish will hope he can persuade Lennon to join the Reds.
Fernando Reges (FC Porto)
Liverpool have been linked with a move for FC Porto's defensive midfielder Fernando Reges and with Kenny Dalglish provided with funds to sign players in January, he would represent a good move for the Reds.
With Lucas Leiva injured, a move for the strong Porto midfielder does make sense since he could add a lot to the team with his intelligent play. With FC Porto also being knocked out of the Champions League, there is better chance of him moving to Liverpool in January.
With the Reds having sold Raul Meireles in the summer, they have had to play Jordan Henderson in a deeper role or the inexperienced Jay Spearing.
With the Reds desperate to finish among the top four places this season, signing Fernando could be a good acquisition, though Porto would be reluctant to lose the midfielder.
Scott Sinclair (Swansea)
Swansea have plenty of exciting attacking players in their team and their performances have not gone unnoticed as their players have been linked with some of the big clubs.
Liverpool have been linked with a move for Swansea's exciting winger, Scott Sinclair, who has proved to be threatening for most opposition defenses this season. Sinclair, who is only 22 years old, was not very successful when he was at Chelsea but has excelled for the Welsh side.
According to the Daily Mail, Liverpool could be bidding around £5 million for the winger this transfer window, but Swansea are unlikely to even consider selling the winger at that price.
Sinclair has a bright future ahead of him if he continues to progress; it helps he also has an excellent manager who can get the best out of him.
Marko Marin (Werder Bremen)
Marko Marin is a very talented German midfielder who has not been at his best in the last couple of seasons. However, he was considered as one of the best emerging talents in Germany and was also in the squad for the World Cup because of his impressive performances for Werder Bremen.
Marin could benefit from a change in environment and could regain his form at a different club.
Liverpool are one of the clubs who have been linked with him in the past and could be interested if he is available in this January transfer window. The Reds will benefit if they sign Marin because when he is at his best, he can provide great creativity to the team. He is undoubtedly a superb talent but needs to find his form at this important stage of his career.
Riccardo Montolivo (Fiorentina)
With Lucas Leiva injured, they could probably utilize Montolivo in a deeper role to provide more stability to the team while the Italian international could also benefit from a move to Liverpool. With Fiorentina not competing in major European competitions, there is every chance that Montolivo would want to leave the club.
He is technically good on the ball and can also help in creating goal-scoring opportunities. Also, he is quite versatile and can provide good depth to the team. He can play as the attacking midfielder or in a deeper role and could be used there if signed.
With his contract ending in the summer, the 26-year-old midfielder could be available for a lesser transfer fee. He would be an astute acquisition by Liverpool.
Mesut Ozil (Real Madrid)
Mesut Ozil can be considered as one of the best midfielders in the world and he has been a vital member in Jose Mourinho's Real Madrid side. The Germany international has impressed for the club since signing after the World Cup in South Africa and continues to show his impressive talents for Real Madrid.
However according to the Daily Mail, there is a chance that he could be sold because Mourinho is not impressed by his latest performances for the club; Liverpool are waiting to sign the midfielder if he is available.
However, it is very improbable that he could be sold by Madrid considering that the Germany international is regularly used by Mourinho even ahead of Ricardo Kaka as Ozil is looking like he will be an integral player for Madrid in the years to come as well.
There are a number of transfer rumors which are too far-fetched in the transfer season and this could be one of them.
