Milos Raonic is into the third round at Melbourne Park as Canada's top player eliminated veteran Philipp Petzschner in what was both a challenging and entertaining match.

The line score in the match ended at 6-4, 5-7, 6-2, 7-5 in favor of Raonic as he celebrated a hard-fought win.

Petzschner, a veteran on the tour, looked as though he was going to extend the Canadian to a fifth set at some points late in the match. The German, for example, held three break points in the eighth game of the fourth set and could have taken a 5-3 lead over Raonic at that point.

However, the Canadian managed to hold and clinched the match a little while later to advance to the third round for the second straight year at Melbourne Park.

Raonic now awaits the winner between Andy Roddick and Lleyton Hewitt, two former world No. 1s who will meet in the second round later on Day 4 at the 2012 Australian Open

If he survives the third round, Raonic's most probable opponent is Novak Djokovic in the fourth round. The Serb and the Canadian are in each other's way to make the quarterfinals at Melbourne Park, with few expecting Raonic to advance and make the final eight in Melbourne

Last season at Melbourne Park, Raonic made a name for himself by making the second week as a qualifier. In the year that followed, the Canadian has experienced additional successes as well as some setbacks due to injury.

He does have a recent ATP title and promises to be a tough out no matter who he faces in the upcoming rounds down under.
