Professional golfer Stephen Wesley Thomas has been arrested after he allegedly tried to meet a minor for sex.

Wesley, 55, is a veteran of 44 PGA events, and 34 on the Champions Tour. His resume includes three top-10 finishes.

The Orlando Sentinel released details of his arrest:

His arrest affidavit states Thomas thought he was chatting with a woman about sex with her 13-year-old daughter. He agreed to meet the teen for sex, deputies say, and sent photos of himself golfing.

Investigators searched Thomas' sport utility vehicle after his arrest, the affidavit states, finding three condoms, two packages of chocolate pudding and a bottle of honey. Deputies say he confessed.

The Sting

Thomas was one of 40 individuals arrested in a sting operation the Osceola County Sheriff's Office coined "Operation Red Cheeks."

The suspects face a variety of charges, including traveling to seduce a child to commit sex acts, using a computer to solicit a child or parent and, for some, attempted lewd and lascivious battery of a child.

Individual charges have not been released, but the Sentinel reported that, "the suspects face a variety of charges, including traveling to seduce a child to commit sex acts, using a computer to solicit a child or parent and, for some, attempted lewd and lascivious battery of a child."

Williams is just the latest sports figure to get caught up in disgusting allegations of sexual crimes involving minors.

Let's all hope this is just a sign of temporary madness, and not things to come.
