According to Jason LaCanfora, the Minnesota Vikings were given permission to speak to Alan Williams, defensive backs coach for the Indianapolis Colts, for their vacancy at the defensive coordinator position. It seems as though the Minnesota Vikings are not pleased with the possibility of Mike Singletary as the defensive coordinator. The interview will reportedly take place tomorrow in the Winter Park facilities.
Alan Williams' Résumé:
2001: Defensive Assistant for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers
2002-Present: Defensive Backs Coach for the Indianapolis Colts
Minnesota Vikings head coach Leslie Frazier must be behind this move. Former Colts head coach Tony Dungy is Leslie Frazier's mentor and was most likely in his ear about this move. Not much is known about Williams, but his experience with defensive backs could help the Vikings who have the worst secondary in the NFL.
The Minnesota Vikings are in need of a new defensive coordinator. Last year, the Minnesota Vikings defense did not play as well as expected behind Fred Pagac's defensive schemes.
Whoever becomes the Vikings' defensive coordinator will have a lot on their plate, but have much to look forward to. The Minnesota Vikings were the 21st-ranked defense in the NFL last year, but with a high pick in a great draft class, the Vikings are sure to make a splash and secure great defensive talent.
Other names that have been linked to the job so far are Miami Dolphins interim head coach Todd Bowles, Philadelphia Eagles' ex-defensive coordinator Juan Castillo and the Minnesota Vikings' linebackers coach Mike Singletary.
