The Rockies have been actively shopping outfielder Seth Smith for weeks now and have pulled the trigger on a trade with the Oakland A's.

Colorado has received starting pitchers Guillermo Moscoso and Josh Outman.

Last season was Moscoso's first extended time in the big leagues. He went 8-10 with a 3.38 ERA, which is not bad seeing as he was in the same division as Texas and Anaheim. He should be a nice back-end of the rotation pitcher for the Rockies.

Outman is a 27-year-old LHP who threw 58 innings with Oakland last season and 78 at Triple-A. He has posted pretty good numbers the past two seasons. In 2009 Outman started 12 games and had a 3.48 ERA and then had Tommy John surgery, missing 2010. His 2011 was a nice season, though, with nine games started and a 3.70 ERA.

The Rockies will now have a real competition for a few rotation spots heading into 2012.

Smith has been a very productive player for Colorado, but became expendable when they signed Michael Cuddyer.

This trade provides the Rockies with some much-needed pitching depth, and both Moscoso and Outman have proved they can succeed at the Major League level.
