ESPN's Adam Schefter has just reported that Gregg Williams has officially left the New Orleans Saints to join Jeff Fisher and his staff in St. Louis.

The loss is a bittersweet one for the Saints and Who Dat Nation. On one hand, Williams was a major contributor to the Saints' 2009 Super Bowl run, but his defense is also a big part of why the Saints have not been back to the big game the past two years.

Williams is known for blitzing, and he did that on more than 50 percent of the defensive snaps in 2011. This scheme rarely worked and often times got the Saints' defense in trouble.

Williams' defenses also did not get much pressure on opposing quarterbacks and have not created turnovers anywhere close to the rate that they did in that amazing '09 year.

The loss of Williams is sweet for Saints fans because it creates change and opportunity for New Orleans. The Saints will likely go after a coach like Mike Nolan, Steve Spagnuolo or Jack Del Rio, or possibly a position coach under a guy like Dom Capers or Dick Lebeau.

A new defensive coordinator may be exactly what the Saints need. The Saints have plenty of talent on the defensive side of the ball, but they have yet to reach their potential.

A new coordinator like Spagnuolo or Nolan would be able to come in and make a mediocre defensive line in New Orleans one of the better ones in the league. If the Saints can get pressure with their four down lineman, then the linebackers and secondary would improve dramatically.

I look for the Saints to bring in a coordinator that can do that.

The Saints may have lost a good coordinator in Gregg Williams, but they should be able to find a replacement that could end up being better.
