NBA Trade Rumors: While Golden State Isn't the Answer, Dwight Howard Must Go

Jun 3, 2018

Dwight Howard isn’t going to the Golden State Warriors, but he won’t be a member of the Orlando Magic for much longer, either.

At least, that’s how it appears right now.

The star center has become a lightning rod for trade rumors over the last two seasons, but sources recently have said that Howard may be considering a trade that would send him to Golden State. Howard’s agent, Dan Fegan, told the San Francisco Chronicle that he would not be interested in becoming a Warrior now or any time in the future.

If that’s not a slap in the face to the Golden State franchise, I don’t know what is.

While you can’t argue with what Howard is saying, there is no way to justify how he is handling this whole situation. Howard has flip-flopped several hundred times during the course of this process and left his Magic team out to dry.

It’s obvious that the Magic will and are doing everything to build this franchise around him, but the fact that he is already acting like a diva means the problem will only get worse as time goes on.

That’s why Orlando needs to trade him, after the All-Star game that is.

The reason Orlando can’t pull a trade for Howard off until the All-Star game is over is because they’re hosting the show. If the team trades Howard away and he comes into the Amway Arena wearing another team’s colors, it would be the PR equivalent of the Titanic sinking on their watch.

With the All-Star game the last week of February and the trade deadline March 15th, that would give the Magic two weeks to make a deal that would alleviate the attitude problem and gather the pieces and cap room to make a run at a big-name free agent in the next few seasons.

In the meantime, they can collect the quality draft picks they’ll get by becoming perennial playoff pretenders.

Stop me if you heard this script before, Orlando; Shaq 2: Dwight Howard Boogaloo.
