Chelsea have accepted an offer from Queens Park Rangers within 24 hours after Gary Cahill left for London to undergo a medial. Alex had been marginalized from the Chelsea squad after the arrival of David Luiz sent him further down the pecking order. This prompted Alex, along with Nicholas Anelka, to hand in a transfer request.

Alex marks the first signing of manager Mark Hughes after Neil Warnock was sacked.

Given Chelsea's defensive woes, should they have tried to integrate Alex into the first team? Leave your opinions. What should Chelsea do further to bolster their defence?
