Sergei Liakhovich, left, will be left without an opponent on Jan. 21.
Former heavyweight title contender Eddie Chambers fractured his ribs in training and has been forced to pull out of the Jan. 21 bout with Sergei Liakhovich.
This is the second consecutive bout for Chambers which has been canceled on account of an injury. He was scheduled to face Tony Thompson in a title eliminator in October, but suffered a back ailment.
Chambers (36-2, 18 KOs) has been angling for another shot at the heavyweight championship and one of the Klitschko brothers. Without question, this second lost opportunity is a major setback in that quest.
The rest of the card at Asylum Arena in Philadelphia, Chambers' hometown, will proceed as scheduled. The matchup between Jesus Soto-Karass and Gabriel Rosada will now be the main feature on the NBC Sports Network "Fight Night" broadcast, and former prospect of the year Joel Julio will also appear on the undercard.
Liakhovich (25-4, 16 KOs), a former belt holder, will not remain on the card as a sufficient replacement was not available in time.
It is not clear if Chambers-Liakhovich will be rescheduled.
