Fantasy Hockey Schedule Week 16: Trade Deadline Preview

Week 16 is loaded with games. Only the Vancouver Canucks play twice; everyone else plays three or more.  13 teams play four games this week, and the Boston Bruins play five games.  This is the week that records could be set for weekly fantasy point totals.

The Calgary Flames and Montreal Canadiens gave hockey fans a little preview of the NHL trade deadline.  Mike Cammalleri, Karri Ramo and a fifth-round draft pick in 2012  were traded from Montreal to Calgary for Rene Bourque, Patrick Holland and second-round draft pick in 2013.

Cammalleri heads back to Calgary, where he had his career season of 39 goals and 82 points.  Cammalleri needed a change of scenery and going back to where he had success should get his season back on track.

Bourque is coming off three straight seasons of 20+ goals, including back-to-back 27-goal seasons.  Bourque is on pace for 26 goals, which would be his fourth straight of 20+ goals.  Bourque will play his first game as a Canadien on Sunday, January 15 as his five-game suspension will be over.

Montreal won this trade, as Bourque will give the Canadiens similar goal scoring they had in Cammalleri but he also brings size, something they were missing.  On top of Bourque, Montreal got a solid prospect in Patrick Holland who is on pace for a career year in the WHL with the Tri-City Americans.

If this is just a preview of things to come we are in store for an exciting trade deadline in the mean time here are the games to be played in Week 16:

When it comes to dressing your players for the upcoming week—especially your goalies—it is important to know which team is on a long road trip and which team is enjoying an extended period at home.

Listed below are the teams that play at least three home/away games this week or play all their games at home or on the road (home/road records up to January 13, 2012):

HOME: Anaheim (10-12-1), New Jersey (11-7-1), Philadelphia (10-6-2), Phoenix (8-8-3), Pittsburgh (11-7-2), St. Louis (17-3-3), Toronto (12-5-4) and Vancouver (12-5-2)

AWAY: Boston (12-4-0), Buffalo (8-10-0), Calgary (8-14-3), Colorado (10-9-2), Florida (10-9-3), Nashville (11-8-1), Ottawa (10-7-5) and Washington (7-12-1)

If you participate in any type of head-to-head hockey pool, you are likely dressing a lineup for each scoring period, which usually ends on Sunday.

As the week comes to an end, and you find yourself in a close battle for those wins, you want as many players as possible playing for you.

Here are the teams that play on Sunday (January 22, 2012):

SUNDAY: Anaheim, Boston, Colorado, Philadelphia, Pittsburgh and Washington

When you are deciding which goalie to dress, you need to look at the NHL schedule to see if your goalie's team will play in a back-to-back game that week.

Most coaches will not dress the same goalie in back-to-back games, so that is something to consider when you are thinking about which goalie to dress.

Here are the teams that play in back-to-back games this week:

BACK-TO-BACK: Anaheim, Boston (twice), Buffalo, Carolina, Chicago, Colorado, Dallas (twice), Detroit, Florida, Montreal, Nashville, New York I, Ottawa, Philadelphia, Phoenix, Pittsburgh, Tampa Bay, Washington and Winnipeg

Knowing which team is on a hot streak or cold streak will help in making your lineup decisions.

For example you definitely want to dress a goalie from teams that are on a hot streak. Here are the top five and bottom five teams over their last 10 games up to January 13, 2012:

TOP FIVE: New York R (8-2-0), Boston (8-2-0), Ottawa (7-1-2), San Jose (7-1-2) and Vancouver (7-2-1)

BOTTOM FIVE: Edmonton (2-7-1), Columbus (2-7-1), Minnesota (2-7-1), Buffalo (2-6-2) and Montreal (3-7-0)

Fantasy hockey is all about offense and what better place to generate offense then the power play.  Here are the top five power plays up to January 13, 2012:

Vancouver Canucks: 23.6 percent
Toronto Maple Leafs: 21.7 percent
Nashville Predators: 21.3 percent
Edmonton Oilers: 21.3 percent
New York Islanders: 19.6 percent
