Graham DeLaet hasn't played competitive golf in over 7 months.

You wouldn't have been able to tell after his 7-under round of 63, which included 6 birdies and an eagle.

DeLaet had to have back surgery at the beginning of last year to alleviate the pain caused by a disk rubbing on a nerve.

He tried coming back later in the year, but after a few rounds realized it was too soon and took the rest of the year off.

South Korea's K.J. Choi, and Sweden's Carl Petterson are in a tie for 2nd at 5-under.

Notables in a tie for 5th at 4-under are Webb Simpson and Steve Stricker.

Although Steve Stricker said he felt "a little sluggish at times", he managed to card a 66.

Stricker had 5 birdies and 1 bogey, with a bogey-free back-9 of 31.

So drained from the win at the Tournament of Champions last week, Stricker had to take Tuesday off and returned the next day for the Pro-Am.

Even though he is fighting fatigue, Stricker says, "When you can win, it just boosts that confidence level way up there".

Defending champ Mark Wilson shot a disappointing 73, which could have been worse had he not supplemented his round with a pair of birdies.
