Report: Minnesota Twins Awarded 2014 All-Star Game
According to a report, Target Field will host the 2014 MLB All-Star Game.
When Target Field was first built, the city of Minneapolis and Twins fans dreamed of the possibilities the new venue could accommodate. One of those dreams was attempting to land the 2014 Major League Baseball All-Star Game.
Well, it appears the Twins' bid for the Mid-Summer Classic was successful according to a report from USA Today MLB writer Bob Nightengale who tweeted this Thursday night.
There is really no suspense. The All-Star Game will be at Citi Field in NY in 2013 and Target Field in Minneapolis in 2014. #MLB #twins #mets
If the report is true, it will be the third All-Star Game hosted by the Twins in the franchise's history.
The Twins previously hosted the game in 1965 (when it was played at Metropolitan Stadium in Bloomington, Minnesota) and 1985 (played at the Hubert H. Humphrey Metrodome).
In addition to the 2014 All-Star Game, Target Field will also host the Home Run Derby, which is held the night before the All-Star Game, and the Futures Game, which is held the Sunday before the All-Star Game.
As of Thursday night, Major League Baseball has yet to confirm anything, but Nightengale seems to be a very credible source on the matter.
If the report is accurate, it will still be be a couple of years before the Mid-Summer Classic actually comes to Target Field. However, there will be a lot of hype and excitement revolving one of the biggest events of the summer in 2014.
