Sheamus is a regular main-event talent on SmackDown as of late and is really over with the fans. He has become the superstar I always said he would be when he debuted and everyone hated him.
If he carries on the way he has been, I foresee multiple world title reigns and a Hall of Fame spot for the Irishman.
So is he feuding with the likes of John Cena and Randy Orton?
No, as the title suggests, he is feuding with one of the newest superstars on the SmackDown roster, Jinder Mahal.
As you can also deduce from the title, this feud is wasted on Sheamus. He is a superstar who has managed to work his way back to the top from unrelenting burying by the top brass.
Mahal is a guy who debuted with a storyline that went nowhere after being lumbered with the Great Khali.
Since he broke with the Great Khali in late September, Mahal has won just 25 percent of his televised matches (I actually worked that out by the way), so why is he going up against a top superstar who has won 78 percent of his matches in the same amount of time? (I worked that out as well...)
It is my reckoning that Sheamus should be feuding with Wade Barrett at the moment. He would be doing if it weren’t for Mahal. He just seems to be getting in the way at the moment and taking away from what could be a brilliant feud leading up to the Royal Rumble.
Is this Mahal/Sheamus feud a waste of Sheamus?
This leads me onto a side point—a feud with Mahal could be seen as something for Sheamus to do in between now and my favorite pay-per-view of the year.
Sheamus is my pick for the Royal Rumble this year, but out of all the strong characters he is going to have to defeat to be the last man standing, he is messing around with Jinder Mahal. He should just bat him away like the annoying little fly that he is.
I have no doubt that Jinder Mahal could be a big superstar one day, but come on...starting him off on Sheamus is one of the worst ideas ever. Have him fight someone he can put over like Ted DiBiase, who he has been wrestling, or a similar talent such as Hunico.
It is clear to see that the WWE is trying to push Mahal to be a strong contender for the top titles, but yet again they are going the wrong way about it. If he beats Sheamus (which he really better not do) that is just going to push him too fast and we will end up with a Jack Swagger situation on our hands, and we really don’t want that.
On the other hand, if he loses, as happy as I’ll be because Sheamus is my favorite wrestler at the moment, it is doing Jinder Mahal no favors. It’s like pitting Trent Barreta up against John Cena—it isn’t going to help either of them out.
So when asked the question of why Sheamus is being wasted on a feud with this fresh superstar, your guess is as good as mine.
After analyzing the situation, the only answer can be that the WWE don’t know what they are doing and are at a loss with what to do with Sheamus and Jinder Mahal.
Regardless of the reason, this feud is pointless and should end on Friday.
We can only hope the WWE see the potential in a Sheamus/Barrett feud.
