NBA, Denver Nuggets, NBA Trade Rumors, JR Smith

Despite reports that the Denver Nuggets are looking to make a trade before this week's deadline, one Nuggets' player doesn't believe a deal will get done.

In an interview with RealGM's Alex Kennedy,

J.R. Smith said he anticipates the team going forward as currently constructed.

While other Western Conference teams like Phoenix, Dallas, and Los Angeles have made big moves in an effort to bolster their title chances, Smith—who has been mentioned in some trade rumors—doesn't think Denver will pull the trigger on a deal.

"Nah, we're not [making any trades]," said Smith when asked about the possibility of a trade. "We're just worrying about the team we have now. That's all we really can do, worry about the players we have."

  1. There has to be some sort of trade. Rumors this year have almost been all true.

    1. I don't know if Denver can make a trade without giving up either Carmelo, Iverson, or Camby which they're obviously not going to do. The pieces they have to shop are basically Linas Kleiza, J.R. Smith, and Eduardo Najera (who is an expiring contract). I've heard rumors about them pursuing Artest but it'll be interesting to see what happens.

  2. I wouldn't be so confident...

  3. The newest rumor I'm hearing is that talks between Denver and Sacramento are heating up and the only thing keeping Artest from becoming a Nugget is the fact that Denver doesn't want to give up Linas Kleiza. They think he has tons of potential and don't want to sacrifice their talented youth for a player that may be able to help them win right now.

  4. I'm glad J.R. Smith is Denver's GM haha

  5. ^Haha, didn't you hear? The bench runs the show in Denver. :)

I thought it was funny how the in control he sounded as well but his opinion is better than the average person since he is closer to the situation.

  6. I still think they're gonna make a run at Artest. We'll see I guess haha.

  7. Denver need to trade though or at least step up the intensity on defence

  8. I agree that they need to make a trade. Right now, they're not on the level of Phoenix, Dallas, Los Angeles, or San Antonio. If they want to contend, they need to make a deal. Bringing in Artest would be huge for them. That'd give them a starting lineup of Iverson/Artest/Anthony/Martin/Camby which would be pretty impressive.

  11. You can't always believe what players say. They don't run anything, G.M.'s and owners do so they have the last word. And it would be impressive if Denver did aquire Ron Artest but how would he deal with being the team's 3rd scoring option? Would he pout and throw temper tantrums costing them games or will he be quiet and play like a superstar?

  12. Yeah, players (especially those of Smith's caliber) don't really have a say when it comes to player acquisitions. If it were someone like Carmelo Anthony or Allen Iverson saying this, it would be a bigger deal because the front office probably seeks the opinions of those guys before making any moves. I just figured I would report it because while he may not be in control of the situation, he may have heard some things and his speculation is still better than ours since he's closer to the situation.

As for Ron Artest, he would definitely make their starting lineup more intimidating on paper but I agree with your points. It'd be interesting to see how he meshes with the other stars on that team.

  13. Nice article - I don't know that I'd want Artest if I was Denver, I guess they need a defensive stopper though.

  14. Alex you the man I love you <3

  15. How does JR Smith have any knowledge of what the front office is doing?

  16. nice article

  17. By the way, thanks for all the positive feedback guys.

  18. I guess J.R. Smith was somewhat right. Denver didn't make a big trade at all. All they did was acquire Taurean Green from Portland in exchange for Von Wafer. That was just a deal to save money and pick up another guard. I guess Smith knows his stuff. :)
