Real Sociedad keeper Enaut Zubikarai took his soccer ball for a little stroll on Tuesday. He then calmly threw the ball down with a bit of clever backspin to prepare for a nice light kick while he enjoyed his day.
The problem with all of this was that it was during a match with Mallorca, and Gonzalo Castro was stalking up right behind him. Shockingly enough, Castro was eager to kick the ball before Zubikarai.
And that is exactly what he did as a helpless and sinking Zubikarai could do nothing but lunge for the defender as he raced around him to boot an open net goal.
This foolish act alone is enough to shame a keeper for life, but that's not all Enaut has working against him in this one. That was the fourth goal he allowed in six minutes!
This goal was merely the lowlight of an epic collapse. Real Sociedad led this game 1-0, and had a 3-0 aggregate in the Copa del Ray. They squandered all of that as they went on to allow six unanswered goals and were eliminated from the tournament.
As damaging as this performance was for the team, it will likely prove far more painful for Zubikarai. The 27-year-old has been lightly used all season, and the load is likely to get a lot lighter after this terrible meltdown.
