Packing For Vegas: College Basketball Picks Jan. 4

Andrew KahnCorrespondent IJanuary 4, 2009

I must apologize, again. A few days ago, B/R glitched and didn't post my article on time. Today, however, I simply forgot.

I placed a bet on UCLA, then took my dog for a walk before writing the article. Now the game has already started. So once again, you're going to have to trust me. I took UCLA -10.5 at Oregon.

I'm looking for back-to-back wins with the Bruins, who easily dispatched Oregon State on Friday. Oregon doesn't play any defense and UCLA's stingy "D" should limit the Ducks. I don't think it's going to be a huge blowout, more like a 13-16 point win.

I'm taking another Pac-10 school as well: Arizona State. The Sun Devils are one-point favorites over a Cal team that hasn't proven itself yet. The Bears are 12-2, but they've played a weak schedule. If ASU is going to compete for a conference title, this is a game it should win.

Today's Picks: UCLA -10.5; 1 unit

                          Arizona St -1; 1 unit

Season Record: 26-16 (62 percent); +15.4 units
