The card featured a main event between former UFC heavyweight champion Brock Lesnar, who took on former K1 kickboxing champion Alistair Overeem. The former WWE superstar was stopped in the very first round after Overeem landed a liver kick.
In the co-main event, Nate Diaz faced Donald Cerrone, who was fighting for the fifth time this year with his first four fights ending in victory. It was a three-round battle, but one that saw Diaz taking one big step forward in winning a unanimous decision.
Also, Jon Fitch entered his bout with Johny Hendricks having only lost once in the UFC to Georges St-Pierre, but his heavy-handed opponent got the best of him with a big left hand that knocked him out just 12 seconds into Round 1.
UFC 142 will be headlined by a featherweight title fight between champion Jose Aldo and undefeated challenger Chad Mendes. Anthony Johnson also takes on Vitor Belfort in a middleweight bout.
